hi all

my question is: if a freindly archer is in base contact with a freind and said friend is in a fight with an enemy, can the archer shoot said enemy?

Quote:
the rule book says:
If a model is shooting from behind a friendly model, this model isn't considered to be in the way of its shooting so long as they're in base contact...

Quote:
also:
Good models are not allowed to shoot enemies that are already in fighting other good models...

any ideas?

You're attempting to shoot at a foe in combat, and that's not allowed. The fact that your touching the friendly doesnt change that I suppose.

Just to add to this, can a model in a similar situation shoot an enemy that is behind the combat, such as a supporting spear/pike. I've always though yes but I don't know.

So long as they have direct line of sight to the enemy and their own guy isn't in the way at all.

What if you're own guy is in a fight with an enemy who is spear supported, and the enemy in the fight is in the way of the spear support? Our house rule is that you can't shoot, because if you hit the enemy in the fight there's still a 50/50 chance of hitting your own guy.

True, because that would give you a 50/50 chance of shooting into a combat. Thanks for pointing that out. I wouldn't count that as a house rule so much as a clarification of the rules.

The guys at my GW(who actually know the rules pretty well) said that you can shoot past the combat if your touching the base of your fighting man, at the enemy spear support. But you have to take an in the way roll, if you fail the arrow,just.....disappears. I don't know if that's right but that's how we have been playing it for a couple years now.

It's not, if you moved about an inch to one side so that the fight wasn't in the way at all, you could shoot the spear support.

I would say that's wrong. You can't take a shot as good if you have any chance of hitting another good model.

change to: "If a model is shooting from behind a friendly unengaged model..." This is from the feb 2012 MoM FAQ.

I will keep an eye out in the new rulebook: so much is different. Will people use nerfed bows much, with volley gone and the Fight Value penalty for moving?

I don't see it changing much for my own games, especially as my favourite are Elves and 4+ for having moved is still good. It doesn't change anything for xbows, they can't move and shoot anyway. But competitively I'd expect to see far fewer orc-bow-based archers...things have been moving in that direction anyway what with drummers and Mauhur, etc.
