Placing them in my display I noticed the scale difference to normal WoMT, the hornblower next to the warriors looks ridiculous! :x

It is a shame about the scale creep (I have noticed it with the Easterling Dragon Knight & War Priest, not major but they do stand taller than their brethren) howver your paint job is excellent on them.

They are metal, and I'll be posting a pic of the scale difference this weekend ;)

Very good indeed, but is that captain's pose meant to look like he's tripped over the Orc? Not a problem with the paint job, just the sculpt.

There are multiple examples of scale creep in the range - sometimes it is just parts of the body that are out of kilter (think Monkeytwins). Some of the bigger minis like the trolls, balrog and fellbeast are actually a little on the small side. The Mumakil is positively stunted but that is what we have to work with.

How do you get that effect with the sand on the bases?

That scale creep thing is the same with metal models and plastics.

The Rohan Royal Guard are giants next to the normal warriors.

Don't really know what 'effect' you mean, but colorwise:
1: Paint the sand and rim Scorched Brown.
2: Heavy drybrush of Snakebite Leather
3: Drybrush with a mix of Bleached Bone and a bit of Snakebite Leather.
4: Pure Bleached Bone drybrush.

The grey rocks on the commanders bases are pieces of bark ;)

I painted Sharku on foot for a challenge a while ago and though I'm focussing on Gondor, I love to play with mounted hero's so Sharku on warg has to be painted!

Image

I'm setting a goal for myself: no more Gondor backlog when The Hobbit releases, and here they are:

Image
Aragorn, king Elessar
Boromir mounted with banner
Faramir mounted
Faramir with bow
Denethor
KoMT with banner
WoMT with banner
Osgiliath Veterans: 6
WoMT: 37
Rangers: 11

61 models.

A lot has been based, Denethor is done en three Osgiliath veterans are due today.
Denethor's pretty boring and basic to paint but I like the way he turned out.
