I googled LOTR figures, found Xelee's blog, where he talked about One-Ring, and that soon became my favourite haunt.

When I found out about the hobby, I came across TLA through Google searches, but never made an account - I just liked the inspirational pictures back then. I liked the articles, and then found our beloved One Ring, where the articles (IMO) were fewer in number but of perhaps higher standard. After a while, I made an account and the rest is happy hobby history! :)

When I bought my first LOTR set, Return of the King box set, I went to GW's forum (long since gone) and started there. I can't remember how, but I eventually came upon the OR, which has been my favorite all along.

I joined TLA in 2004, and there were references to O-R there and I signed up here in 2005, chiefly because of the awesome annual awards. I still spent most of my time on TLA as I was a mod there, but after it crashed, I wasn't invited back to resume the post, and a major disagreement with the new TLA management led me to all but boycott the site and set up home here. I haven't looked back since.

I heard about the OneRing also on TLA, years ago (must have been around 2004 I think?).
I checked the OneRing from that time, although I didn't make an account. That was until 2009, when I made an account but forgot to use it. Now, I'm finally active on here!

They were once a year with Sculpting, Painting, Terrain building and Diorama categories, with first second and third places being awarded a prize. There was also a Master Craftsman category which was themed. You can read more about it in the One Ring Competitions forum:

Ive only just found out about this forum. having been a regular(ish) on heresyonline.net, I found myself drawn to the LOTR section, and after a few posts trying to drum up some interest (in which unfortunately it was lacking) I was led here. I was an avid modeller/player of the SBG around 5-6 years ago, but then as most teenage lads I was more interested in girls, skateboards and beer. i found my way back to 40k around a year ago, and recently found my old LOTR models and decided to get back into it, as im a huge Tolkien fan!

I believe I googled LOTR SBG websites and came across warseer, after a bit of lurking I made an account and was one of the few people who were actually using the LOTR part. After a while I got bored on there, it just wasn't active enough, I somehow found TLA and lurked there for a while until I found out about the OR. I liked what I saw and made an account and as they say the rest is history. I still check up on warseer every once in a while same with TLA(but I have yet to make an account over there) this is definatly where my LOTR home is. 8)

www.thelastalliance.com

Another forum dedicated to the hobby.

Way back when the films were out and when TLA was in its prime I spent a lot of time there, along with the official GW forums and The Palantir.

Just before TLA crashed I thought about getting back into the hobby. Checked back a week later, bam, it had vanished.

So a few months after that I again sought to return to the hobby, and remembered TOR. Lurked around for a couple of days, thought the atmosphere felt great and that the community was one I'd be happy and proud to be a part of. And thus the downfall began

I actually got here through the Fall of Gondolin Supplement, I couldn't get the link working & I ended up here.

I think I must 've been looking at this site for about a year back then... I think I read every new article / topic daily, but it took me about a year to finally register!

I had been a member of TLA for a while and someone there (his name was Maitex if I recall correctly) asked me for help with producing a supplement - to be called 'The Age of the King". The team members included a guy called Silverscott (a Ranger on TLA at the time) and he had a website called the One Ring, where he suggested we could discuss the supplement.

Eventually I took over when Silverscott left the hobby and lost interest in the place.

I have been looking for that guy for years. If it is the same guy... he also set up a website called aftertheonering and lived in the U.S? May be wrong...

Still I was friends with a guy years back, he vanished from the hobby and a few years later i remembered him and his website with the name "onering" in it, I then searched that and found this beautiful forum! That and grungehog mentioned he was a member as well (as ungoliant the giant spider).
