Now, here is a disclaimer: I am not a great painter by any means, but feel free to laugh at my efforts. I had pictures on Imageshack but they have disappeared so a bit of hasty photography (baaahrooom!) and we have, in no particular order, the following:

Old Red Eye is back -

Image

Old Painless (the proper scratchbuilt trebuchet) is back:

Image

Horsies!

Image

Horsies and Siege tower WIP:

Image

Halloween is just around the corner...

Image

Balrog about to be defenestrated:

The balrog defenestrator:

And what the last two plus Durin's Tower look like assembled:

I need to lie down for a minute or two...

That's some great work! :yay: The siege tower is looking good, and the trebuchet looks good too. Durins Tower is SO cool, the tower is just amazing, and I like what you did with the wings on the balrog, very creative. How long did it take you to make the tower?

PowerofWill - the construction and conversions are described in this article: kb.php?a=157
It took weeks but that was largely because I had maybe just an hour or half an hour to spare on most days, and there was a lot of time spent on research and figuring out scale, dimensions, how I could do it without spending a ridiculous amount of money. To do it at full 28mm scale would have made it more than twice as high plus the GW balrog is too small (not joking!).

What on earth do you need that many for! I guess you just caught a bit to much of playing with the enemy... He is always looking for more slaves to do his bidding as well....

I don't need them, I just like a target-rich environment for Messrs Gimli, Legolas and the Minas Tirith Heavy Trebuchet Regiment (Send them back to the Abyss).
When people talk about BIG battles, in my case, they really are big. I must have the Cecil B DeMille affliction: when making a biblical epic, he was told there were 12 disciples. His response was along the lines of 'Twelve! I don't want twelve! I want thousands!'

Hoking about on the computers I found pictures of Minas Tirith from a few years back - it is still in progress. Just for comparisons sake, I have included the GW resin Minas Tirith, and a metre ruler for scale. There is also an unpainted WoMT on one of the Gate towers. And the trebuchet on its emplacement.

Foamcore, cardboard - lots of both. I used empty cardboard packaging to add strength inside (and it keeps the shape while all the glue is setting). All the stone blocks are just rectangles of card stuck on to the foamcore.
I have not built the gates yet - PaulF made a fantastic version with gates that open and have that clever locking system you see in RotK.
Wall 2 is partly built along with some other structures like the colonnaded builting immediately behind the gate and the belltower beside it.
I wrote an article on this for TheWhiteCity and might still have the making of it somewhere on these computers.
