Chris, can you let me know how you painted those bases and with what colours? I've been trying for a similar style but it just isn't working.

I used a basecoat of Mechanicus Standard Grey (new paint, you could use Codex Grey as an alternative), drybrushed with Fortress Grey followed by a drybrush of Skull White - there's a complete guide on my blog (not step by step pictures yet): http://chrisgomhobbyblog.blogspot.co.uk ... -evil.html

Hope that helps

I really like your work these days Chris - the banner, as I mentioned in the thread, is inspired, and the freehand is perfect. Keep it up!

And a hint as to my next project: "They are coming..."

Very nice work both on the trolls and the banner..
Considering it would take me 4-6 months to paint a troll, you got mad skills and speed mate 8)

The start of my second Dwarf army, this one based on a group of travelling Dwarves. So far I only have these three ready from a box of 24, the one on the left will be used as Murin (the sword was taken from a WoMT), the middle one as a hornblower and the one on the right as Drar. I'll be using a different colour scheme for these Dwarves as well - hopefully the painting will cover up the flaws in the sculpting.

I think the sculpting looks ace. Far superior to anything I could ever do. Will you be converting the whole warband?

Much prefer your Rambling Dwarven Duo to GW's version, the hornblower looks great too. And I don't know what you mean when you say bad sculpting - they all look fantastic!

The dwarves, though not nearly as exciting as TROLLS!, are looking promising, your sculpting is well executed, and I mean it, you are a good sculptor, they're done very well, its a pity the plastoc dwarves are such horroble modles to start with. Look forward to seeing how you finish them 8)

Cheers Knighty :D I'll probably like the sculpting more when I start painting them

I've always been very fond of this kind of conversions, and what you did on those dwarves is absolutely awesome!
Minor changes make huge differences! Well done! 8)

Your pictures confirm it. If I ever start a Dwarven army (Theoden forbid!) I'm replacing at least half of the axes with swords.

Agreed - most excellent sculpting. The pouches and chainmail are first class and fit the characters perfectly. 8)
