Thanks for the link! I was actually using a similar image as reference, as the one on the official GW model looks rather disproportionate to me! I like that golden sun in the upper right corner, maybe I should incorporate that too...?

Finally finished off Gamling and the banner!

Image

I made the horse on the front a bit 'fatter' so as to match the one on the back:

Image

What do you guys/girls think about G's cape?

Image

It's a lighter green so as to contrast with the banner and looks kinda worn in some spots. Not too sure about the highlighting and shadowing either... Would love to hear what you think!

So I finished Gamling today and I'm pretty chuffed with how he (and his steed!) turned out:

And here he is leading the charge with some of my 'old' (I painted these a few months ago) Rohirrim.

Image

If I get my [word deleted] in gear, maybe I'll still enter the painting competition, got loads of Riders of Rohan lying around unpainted...

Edit: Sorry, if I get my 'backside' in gear, maybe I'll still enter the comp. :P

Not content with finishing Gamling, and oblivious to the unpainted Rohan models staring at me from upon my desk, I spontaneously started a mounted Boromir conversion. I mutilated my painted Mines of Moria model and surgically attached him to the bottom half of a 'willing' Rider of Rohan donor.

I'm gonna reattach B's sword arm once I've done modelling his tunic and cloak; the pose will be the same as the original MoM model and it looks pretty cool, as if Boromir was leaning towards an enemy, swinging his sword with all his might.

During the conversion I thought it would be interesting to make a version of Boromir as he travelled from Minas Tirith to Rivendell, so I added several items of baggage to his horse. As the novel says, his journey to the council of Elrond was perilous and 110 days long, so I imagine he needed quite a few supplies!

Great work man!

Are you now going to do a conversion with the bottom half of boromir and the top half of a rider?

Unfortunately not, as cutting away Boromir's torso was rather messy (I don't have proper tools :/) and his legs are completely mutilated. Ah well!

Quick update, just finished modelling the rest of his tunic and cloak (tried to emulate what he wore the Council of Elrond and give it my own spin; fur shoulder-pieces and hood, black velvet 'cape'). Will layer over it with more green stuff tomorrow and add some finishing touches (belt, change the boots, etc.)

Excuse the bad lighting. Thank you and good night!
