I have the limited promotional version. I have worked out a slightly smaller radius version for HA molds. I will have to look for my notes. I do not remember all of the mold numbers off hand.

I really need to get started with Hirst Molds - its something I keep meaning to do but am just to busy with painting miniatures at the moment. Thats cool that you have the promotional piece. I am looking to get hold of one of those as well as the Forge World piece - so if you happen to come accross either of them jst give me a shout it would be much appreciated

I seem to remember it was a hardboard baseboard with a blue dense polystyrene core overlaid with some artificial stuff used as an alternative to real moss for lining hanging baskets.When teased out it looked quite like hay to me.

I always tend to use white PVA for sticking things together so I imagine I just coated the core with PVA and then stuck it on.

After that is was just a case of painting, adding some dried actual moss as bushes and then using these tiny coloured beads I found to act as flowers on these bushes. I often tend to dress the ground with mixed herbs to make a sort of leaf litter (Rosemary is great for twigs being needle-like)

I've found that provided you dry out real moss well it often keeps a bit of colour and won't degrade or rot. You can coat it with PVA and overpaint to get what effect you want but it acts as a great addition to scenery making. As you are no doubt aware, dilute PVA is great for sealing stuff. I'm not sure if I did this on the haystack itself but it seems likely. The ladder is a TT siege ladder I think.

The base can be anything up to 9 X 9 so if you want to make something smaller thats fine. To be totally honest no-one will be measuring the entries to make sure they are the right size - it was more to avoid Barad Dur going head to head with a 6 X 6 rocky outcrop. I'll put a thread up last week September and the challenge will run for 2 months. We could have started sooner but the general consensus was to wait until October. Gathering materials maybe ? Who knows.

Very useful and helpful tips.

I have some coconut mat. I have not seen the artificial fiber. The glass beads make good treasure mixed with gold glitter. :idea:

My shelves are 5" wide and I use 8 1/2" X 11" boxes.

re. custom molds no problem at all
re. the size also fine so long as you don't build Barad-dur on it. The 9x9 is a rough guide and if peoples pieces go an inch or two over so be it. After all its just a bit of fun.
