Thanks for the due diligence DMS. I will be buying a great beast when they come on the sites. My hesitation on purchasing the first batch seems to have been a blessing. I will post my thoughts on the quality of the model. Hopefully they will be done right this time!

Out of stock my butt. Like most positions of power, GW can never admit they made a mistake, so have come up with the out of stock BS story to cover whilst they address the problem with the casts.

This is becoming a self fulfilling prophecy.
Everyone is hoping for an improved cast, why assume this is the case when a GW staffmember gives some shady reason on why it isn't available at the moment?
They're could be a thousand reasons...

Anyway, pretty interesting and lets hope this is the case, but im not getting my hopes up (too high) :P

I have to agree with this - as I said to Kyle its a little convenient that its gone out of stock worldwide at the exact same time.

Wow, i will be amazed if it ever gets made again! I am painting it at the moment, a lot of filler was needed but well worth the effort.

It's funny because just a few months ago people were complaining about it's quality and saying it wasn't worth buying, but now that it's not available, they wish they had bought one.

I mean seriously GW? What the?

Why would you even have those models up still if you aren't selling them? Does anybody know why exactly they pulled the Gandalf Mounted, and the Legolas Mounted?

It's because once something is on the internet, it's there forever, in some format or another. Since they can't ever truly get rid of something, they probably just take the links down rather than trying to remove something that can't actually be removed. If you have the link to the old page, you can still go to it. I plan on buying a metal Avenger Bolt Thrower in the near future from the website, so long as they don't run out of them.

I think they pulled them because they're gonna do them over in finecast, though they might also be included in the Hobbit.

The way I see it is this: They're either 1. redoing the mold or 2. making it in plastic, 1 being much more likely than 2. If it's 1, they'll most likely increase the price. If it's 2, they'll hopefully lower the price, but knowing GW (considering the price of the mumakil) they'll most likely keep it the same.

They might have realized that the Finecast mold doesn't work on it. Although I do agree that it is very doubtful.

I agree with ukfreddybear, although it may take a while to sort it out.

@dragluin, if that was so, they would just release the same sculpt in plastic for the same price so it might be better not so.

They'll probably increase the price if they remake the kit in plastic. They certainly won't decrease it.

Wayland Games appear to have some Great Beasts left in finecast for £37.40

Not necessarily, but it will be close. The plastic Balrog was I think $5 cheaper than the metal one when it came out. Keep in mind you got Gandalf in the metal set though. The plastic Troll was more expensive than the Isengard Troll but again about 5 bucks cheaper than the Mordor one. The plastic Ent started at the same price as the metal version.

I purchased the last one at my flgs and opened the box right there. The two piece fit together fine and the Orc crew looked pretty good. I will look closer later.

I bought the GBOG in my local GW. The employees there didn't know what was going on either and told me the same sort of story as kyle told DMS.

Anyway. I believe that the renewal of the mold is the most likely cause of the disappearance! As you can see on the box of the model they have some "human heads" hanging on the front. that very piece came in twice because those heads apparently are the most likely place for a miscast. and so it was with my model. If they hadn't put in that spare part I would not have accepted it from GW. That is my assumption.. I'm glad I got a hold on a GBOG before they're OOP.

So.. Did any one else also get one of those spare parts? Did it have some miscasts in it? It's the same sprue in which they put the spear(also a delicate part).

What human heads?

I opened 2 Great Beasts in y local store and found none, I though it nonexistent, like the chin-spike on the Cave Drake. Not that I like the severed heads anyway.

I think the beast of gorgoroth might have been taken down to improve the mold .. as its known as one of the worst molds that doesnt fit together very well etc .. I even had a gw manager tell me to make sure I knew about it if I bought one.

I bought one just today (I know, I know but it's the only one I've ever seen!) and am thoroughly disappointed with it. Not only does it have the problem of fitting together and missing the heads (which I actually prefer) but it's full of bubbles and pockmarks, has two holes where the rear right leg meets the body and it only came with 6 Orcs!

*EDIT* Right, I forgot the point of my posting this

What should I do about this? Will GW even replace it at this point?

The misalignment and holes are fixable (although you shouldnt have to) but if its missing parts then I don't see any other option than returning it.
