I love this model. I am also very intimidated by it as I have seen some spectacular renditions of it. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out, likely leading to me moving it further down my list ;-)

Yeah Isle, I'm intimidated by it too! I'm pretty terrible at painting faces so we'll see how this goes.

Ondoher - I'm sure it isn't. :P

UPDATE:

I got the Bridle and the Undersaddle done. Incremental updates I know, but I work better in short sharp bursts.

So far so good. I still don't have this newer version of Arwen foot and mounted. I do mean to though. It is infinitely better sculpted than the previous version.

O u actually glued the model on it B4 painting? It might be handy to leave the figure unglued , i always do it after painting. Then there is no hit in messing up previous paint work on the thorse.

I believe as a metal model, the horse and rider are cast as one piece, so impossible to leave the rider 'unglued'.

I disagree. With a little care and the occasional retouch priming and painting an already assembled miniature cuts back on the division between the pieces; which gives it a more realistic appearance.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but the piece came pretty much whole - one leg and Arwen's sword arm being the only bits needing assembled.

And yeah ukfreddybear, it really is a lovely sculpt, though I think we're bias because of how bad the old one was xD.

Thanks Whatevier!

I was always bad at painting white before now - I think the key to it is patience, of which I possess a lot more of these days. :)

UPDATE:

Image
Image

So I got Arwen's face, hair and overcoat done tonight. The lighting isn't great this time of night so there'll be better pics when I do the creme undercoat thing. I'm quite pleased with the faces - maybe the foot model is tad bright - but yeah :) I don't like doing eyes on models, as I'm not great at it, and I find with my duller palette it tends to clash quite badly anyway.

The blue on the robes is nice and smooth. Any chance of closer up pictures?

I'll take some window-lit ones like the previous ones when I paint the next part :)

Thanks DMS! I really do make it hard for myself though, I need to buy some more colours - I mixed about four to get the base colour for her coat.
