A bit late, but I just wanted to say that I really like the troll! It's inspired me to try something similar with my spare one :)

Thanks all. Only 47 more to go! :D (Plus a box of raiders, a hasharin, and more, once I get them... )
Cal, post some pictures of your progress. I am happy to have inspired someone. :)

Some pictures of the hasharin I just finished. I copied heavily on the overall scheme from Haldir_pl, as with all my haradrim. I also got some greenery on the cd terrain. The only thing left is to make some foliage for the tree.

That Hasharin looks superb! Also, good job on the CD terrain, it looks really good. 8)

I like that terrain a lot. 8) Is the tree made from a BBQ skewer type thing? :?

As I said in the Painting Challenge Thread, I like the more realistic skin tone of the Hasharin. Interesting yellow scheme too.

Yep, it's part of a skewer. I got a big pack for $1 from the dollar store. (crazy huh? $1 stuff at the dollar store...)

Thanks for all the kind comments. I was hoping to do better in the voting part of the hasharin contest, but I think my style of painting just doesn't photograph as well as it looks irl. (at least to me it looks good...)

Anyways, I finished off the tree:

And started on my first horse ever! I am following some of DMS's recipes from his wip thread. Sorry for the blur on the close-up, I'll try and get some better pictures later. (once I've painted more....)

Agree, very nice Haradrim horse, interested in how he/she turns out.

And the horsey is done. I am very happy with how he turned out, especially as it 's my first horse ever. I got a wet palette, and would highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't have one. It cost me ~$7, and the roll of parchmet paper will last a long, long time. Also, the savings of Gw's $5 a pot paint will soon pay it back. Not to mention it makes painting so much easier, you can leave for an hour, come back, and your mix will still be wet and ready to go.

I would also like some blending advice. On the horn on the front of the horse, my blending is a little rough in places, as you can see in the close-up. It looks fine from far away, but up close l'd like it to be smoother. I think that lots of thin layers is what I need, but should they be the dark colour, or should they be the light colour? Also, if I'm getting 'tide marks' when I'm trying to do my glazes, how can I stop that?

Thanks

(I used halogen mode rather than auto white balance, to see if it would help, it didn't. That's why it looks a bit bluer than my other photos.)

PS. Thanks for all the kind comments. :)

That horse looks great, I really like how it ties in with the colours of the warriors

Personally I think you should use a mid colour - snakebite leather - really watered down to help the different colours of the horn blend together better

It is good to see some intriguing variations on painting schema. And I am fascinated by the wet-palette - Romain on BOW waxes lyrical about it and he is a good painter.

It's difficult to say since we all have our own way of painting but a few possibilities are to either use more intermediary colours to create a smooth transition or wet blend between the two colours. For wet blending you might want to add slow dry medium especially if you are having problems with tide marks. Then again for glazing you really shouldn't have problems with tide marks and maybe you should be wiping off more paint from your brush before application.

Although I honestly think you don't need a smooth blending on the horn - just feather the paint along the border so it looks more natural. The rest of the model is really high quality with come lovely colouring so I wouldn't worry about such a small part.

And I'm back with another update. I finished an archer, and the raider. I am really pleased with them both, but tell me what you think! :)

I really like your Haradrim. They are well painted, and the yellow is quite a good, if unusual choice, I also like the more realistic choice of skin colour than GW and most others.

You deserve a few :yay: :yay: 's.
