Exactly. Every price rise people say 'lets all stop buying and make them smartten up'. That's not going to work. And, if you love the game, you wouldn't really want to see gw go out of business....so....yeah.

I don't know what's going on there in Manitoba, but in the wargaming community in Montreal a GW store and a few local ones have closed down. People are also making the switch from GW to Warmachine/Hordes. I live in a city where people protest intuition price rises that don't even put the cost of education close to the rest across the country or continent. Considering that, I'm sure hobbyists where I live also have the good sense not to just give into GW's increasing prices. And I'm not speculating here, on my local wargaming community site everyone is talking about Warmachine now not Warhammer.

I dont think Im going to quit the hobby its just too much fun. but I dont say I like GW.
and I think they make enough profit per box, and there only trying to make as much money as possible per box.
weel lets stock up some things and hope for an price decrease, as many people will quit because the cant afford it not as a boycott.

You want to stay in the hobby, but you want to get your mini's elsewhere. Problem is everyone is turning to Ebay, GW closed down secondary suppliers, so there aren't very many elsewhere's to try.

I'd stop using ebay if I could afford their prices. But i can get 3 sprues of goblins, or a hero in metal for a fraction of their price. I'd love to help them stay in business.

sigh... another price increase. i see there has been some comments that gw might go out of business but i don't believe this. in my local gw ive seen people buy about £100 worth of stuff, a kid about 10 years old walk in and just randomly picked up a land raider crusader and his dad just bought it (and he just picked it up cus he liked it, i heard the conversation being on the board next door :oops: ). i myself buy stuff from gw as i just find it easier, don't have an ebay account (just never really got round to it) and i like building, painting etc. myself. i realise that it will be harder for people to afford models but surely people are just going to have to wait a little longer untill they have the money to buy the models, the idea that them going up by a few pounds and that people can't buy from gw anymore is absurd (and before you think that i don't have problems with money, i fund my hobby by doing a newspaper round and i just save up for weeks before i buy stuff, so my armies grow at a slow pace, but i can still afford it). i think boycotting gw probably is not the best thing either, i realise that there are other systems to play by but gw is the simplest rules, easiest to pick up and has the most succesfull systems. the hobby would not be what it is without them, so i feel we should still support them as they are dominant, but it is for a reason: they are the most succesfull and have the best formula.
this has turned into a bit of a ramble and you will probably disagree with me, but my views in the ring now.

No great surprises really, I'm just glad that I own at least 1 of almost all the primary film+book characters so I won't have to pay inflated prices for them. Unfortunately there are still a couple of things I wouldn't mind getting and will probably still be stung on paint e.t.c.

New resin product with no defects at 1/4 the price of GW.
No one who manufactures in Texas would make a product with as low a melting point as Finecast. :P I am sure the spear will straiten out :rofl:

I'll echo this sentiment! I've switched to 1/72 historicals at the moment. I honestly don't think its an exaggeration to say that many of the models made by Zvezda and Italeri are on par--or even better--than many of the plastic models from GW's LotR range, just in a different scale. 20mm and below are honestly much better scales to do mass combat in anyway, regardless of miniature quality or cost.

I only heard about this today, pretty annoying, especially in the case of plastic infantry which already costed more than I was willing to pay. More annoying that my local GW is now closed on Mondays & Tuesdays, meaning I cannot go into store to pick anything I want up before the price rise on Wednesday. Ah well.

I have found out that a box of 12 warriors is going up to £15 - that works out a 100% increase from when I started and bought 24 for £15... That was only 2 years ago!

Wargames factory has cheaper alternatives for various potential LOTR armies. They are really good quality too.

Just putting this out there in case anybodies budget doesn't agree with GW's price rises.

Yep and I have recently bought from Ebob, his miniatures fit with the older plastic sets. Much better quality casts and details but probably not suitable for beginners as the folds/shapes aren't as severe as GWs. Also recommend Crusader Miniatures for foot soldiers and Fireforge Crusader knights :)

They had been £15 for 24 for ages, I started 6 years ago, and they were half the price they are now, it is only in the past 2 years that they have jumped up, plastic hardly ever used to go up, only metal.

It annoys me, if they reduced the cost I would buy loads - but the more it goes up the less I even want to consider buying anything from them... I have a wish list with loads of figures, but can't warrant spending the vast amount of money they want... It's gonna be eBay or nothing!

So are the other 2 games increasing in price as well? I JUST started playing 40K on a small scale and it suck if the prices went up right before I actually get a real army going. I actually think that I'm finished with getting new LotR minis, not because I hate GW, but because I just don't need any more. Granted, I might still want a few more in the future, but definitely not any plastic ones.

I recommend Gripping Beast also. I have some of the Anglo Saxon infantry from both of them, and while both are good, Gripping Beast are better quality and better value (get more for roughly the same price), although they are noticably larger than both WGF and GW.

Gripping Beast also has fantastic metals, although I think they contain lead.
