I have just finished my Elves army (which is pretty beast and will probs upload soon) but now I have started my arnor/ numenor army, however even with conversions of warriors of minas tirith there is limited variation of troops and I want it to fill a carry case (216 figures) so I decided to add the army of the dead. However instead of painting them dead I though of a minor (not really) conversion using liquid green stuff and then paint them as if they were living (flesh and normal coloured robes). Just wondering if anybody thinks it is a good idea or if somebody has seen any pictures or articles that will help me see if it will work out before I purchase loads of figures.

(PS same applies for barrow wights, I would use them as Arnor champions)

The idea would work, look at the first angmar battlehost in the battlehosts book. I'm just not sure wether they'd work for Arnor. Maybe Rohan is a better idea.

Not sure if you are saying they would be better for Rohan, or to use rohan instead.

Either way I will have a rohan army as part of my Men of the west in my next army and dont want them to be in my men of the north army or i will just get bored of them, and I know they are not up to the same standards as warriors of arnor but they only represent some of Arnors reinforcements, similar to how Gondor has fiefdoms and will not make up a very large part of the army. They would only make up a few trays, so about 24 figures (I use them instead of crappy hobbits), I would still have 23 movement trays of arnor and numenor warriors

I wouldn't use the AotD as living people, unless they were supposed to be evil.

But they were good, they just were not that loyal. If you remember the film, they remain because when isildur called upon them they fled like pussies, which is why I would use them as fodder on the front line to absorb any cavalry charges or monsters while my main army waits behind organised and ready to kick ass.

No, I mean don't use them to represent good living people. If you use them as EVIL living men, they would fit.

I think its a good idea. A few years ago I painted up some metal Army of the Dead as men of Carn-Dum (part of the realm of Angmar) and I will revisit this again!

The problem, as Draugluin mentions, is that AotD and Barrow Wights LOOK evil. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it'd require a bit of work to look like they were Arnorians. Initially you'd have to make them look living which is not so bad for the AotD (they just need noses) but Wights on the other hand have thin skeletal arms and gaunt faces and just look spectral. I'm having trouble envisioning them being turned into Arnor Champions without a lot of work. After you've bulked them out a bit and made them look alive and like normal people, then you'll probably want to repair some of their armour and cloth. AotD are a pretty ragged bunch which, while looking good for barbarians, doesn't tend to fit so well with the free peoples. An army like Arnor, even less so, as they seem to have a ranked regimental approach where everyone is in the same uniform. So fixing them up a little would go a long way to bringing them inline. Then maybe a cohesive scheme to unify them together?

In the end, I think that AotD are possible, but Barrow Wights have me unconvinced.

And what I meant

Rohan Warriors would make a far easier conversion, I think
