Hey guys,

It's been a heck of a long time since I've last posted on these forums. Anyhow, I'm the defending champion for a LoTR:SBG tournament that is coming up this Saturday. Last time, I won using an allied force of Lothlorien Elves and Riders of Rohan. Unfortunately, with the new rule-set, and the reduced points limit (from 800 down to 600), I simply don't have enough points to sink into using an allied Rohirrim contingent this time, which is a shame. Anywho, the game list for the tournament is as follows:

- The High Ground,
- Lords of Battle
- Domination.

And the list I'm planning on using is as follows:

Free Peoples Army - 600 Points – John Yance

Warband 1

Haldir - Overall Army Leader
w. Armour
w. Elf Bow
6 Galadhrim Warriors w. Swords
6 Galadhrim Warriors w. Bows

Warband 2

Galadhrim Stormcaller
5 Noldorian Exiles w. Daggers
7 Noldorian Exiles w. Elf Bows & Daggers

Warband 3

Gildor Inglorion
12 Noldorian Exiles w. Spears & Daggers

Army Totals
# Points: 600
# Models: 39
# Bows: 13 (14 incl. Haldir)
# Might: 5

So as you can see, I've dropped a ton of points on Gildor and Noldorian Exiles. One of the main parts of the old Galadhrim/Rohirrim army that i wanted to keep was the mobility, and with Gildor's passive move buff I thought this was the best way to do it. By making all my normal WEW into NE, it means that I can pretty much out-manouvre armies such as goblins and hobbits (which are two armies that I know will be taking part in the tournament) completely, since to be brutally honest, the preferred method of most generals I've seen is to line everything up in a nice pretty line. The movement helps with the archers as well, since that extra inch is oh-so-important to maintain a consistent firing line. In addition, every NE has daggers now. Yep. I had the points left over, had min-maxed the army to its highest bow-model limit which meant I still had like 40 or so points to scratch my head with. The good thing about the fully-dagger army is that now I present an S* M6 inch threat at all times, which ALSO means that I can essentially stay at an arm's length of main battle lines, while at the same time peppering away at enemies with my close range attacks. The Storm-caller is there for an experiment really, although, it means I can quickly decimate an entire unprotected flank with a well-timed Nature's Wrath combined with the increase move speed of the NE.

So yeah, I'd like to hear some critiquing of the list in general, as well as any potential weaknesses that I should try and take into account playing any of the game types that I've indicated above.

Thanks for your time guys!

John

Well seems like a good list in general :P
First of all, Warband 3 with Gildor cannot be Noldorin Exiles because Gildor is in another faction, so he can take with him only high elves.
What I have to propose is to swap the Galadrhrim warriors with bow, with wood elf warriors with bow and spear for the same points,they are going to be more useful imho + they can shield and as a coseqeunce you win a lot in tactical flexibility.Then, I'd recomment swaping Legolas for Haldir for +10 points. Legolas is not only best archer but he is a more solid leader because of the 3 fate points. Give your wood elves with bows spears instead of daggers so they can support (or leaves the daggers if you don't want a double lined deployment and wanting to charge with everything :D ).
In general I really like full dagger WE armies and with gildror they can get pretty nasty (with the sole exeption being when facing Shadowlord...). I am not quite sure about Stormcallers yet, a well time NW seems to be game-changing, so I cannot really tell you something about them :P. No more blah blah. Hope it'll help a bit!
Good luck with that tournament!
Cheers ;)

Hmmm. That is a little confusing on the whole Gildor thing. In his entry it says that you can upgrade "any number of Wood Elf Warriors" with the upgrade so that they can become "Noldorian exiles". is it a typo, or am I missing something here? The Eregion/Rivendell list doesn't even give you the option to purchase wood elf warriors, which makes no sense whatsoever.

As far as we can tell, you have to ally Gildor in, on his own or with a guard, your choice, then you upgrade wood elves from a different warband. Those are the rules as written. The rules as intended are probably that he can lead wood elves.

What do you guys think of the new changes I've made?

Warband 2 12/12
Haldir with Armour; Elf bow;
6 Galadhrim Warrior with Elf bow;
6 Galadhrim Warrior
----
Warband 3 12/12
Galadhrim Stormcaller
6 Wood Elf Warrior with Throwing daggers; Wood Elf spear;
3 Wood Elf Warrior with Elf bow; Throwing daggers;
3 Wood Elf Warrior with Throwing daggers;
----
Warband 4 10/12
Galadhrim Captain with Elf bow;
4 Wood Elf Warrior with Throwing daggers; Wood Elf spear;
3 Wood Elf Warrior with Elf bow; Throwing daggers;
3 Wood Elf Warrior with Throwing daggers;
----
Warband 5 0/12
Galadhrim Stormcaller
----

I've dropped Gildor, and went with another stormcaller and Hero instead. The points left over from dropping all those NE (cries) went into stock standard WEW instead. Critique welcome as always :D

Aren't two Stormcallers one too much?

Ya, you should go for a captain instead, or trade both stormcallers for Thranduil and get more WEs with the left over points.

Because you would have fewer numbers. Thranduil can auto cast nature's wrath, which means it can't be resisted, whereas any old captain can resist a stormcaller casting nature's wrath.

how do you have fewer numbers? stormcallers are cheaper than thranduil, so you get more warrriors. Im pretty sure that the ruling for his auto cast is that it can be resisted on a 6. yes a captain can resist it, but he can only do it once, where as a stormcaller will be able to cast ~2 of them and a captain has only 1 will. If i have 2 of them, then i can cast them in teh same area, and if there is only "and old captain" there then he can resist both.
Do you know just how strong natures wrath can be? it can take just 1 good one to change a game and i have 2 stormcallers...

There are top players that support this idea. I got this idea from blackmist:
Quote:
I'm not a fan of Gildor in anything lower than 1k armies. At the same time I think that the best elf forces are what I started calling Stormelves, something like:

3 Storm Callers
12 Bows (6 spears)
12 Spears
12 Throwing Daggers
is 500. 600 is a bit annoying, but I really wouldn't mind swapping 1 Stormcaller for Thranduil and then upgrading 12 throwers and 12 bowmen into 2+ hitting (and then giving throwing daggers to spearmen or taking a few Galadhrim Guards).

My reasoning for more numbers is that if you trade both for Thranduil, you'll get more elves. I'm not a fan of having just a single non independant hero make up a warband, so that may be my reasoning behind it. I haven't seen anywhere that his auto cast can be resisted.

i see what u mean, Im not a big fan of having a guy left out like that, but you can remodel the army so you have just 3 heroes (the army that haldir_strikes took to the tourny had 2 stormcallers and rumil)
