Having got back into the hobby a few months back I thought it was time I sorted out some of my atrociously painted collection (thick paint applied with a heavy brush isn't a winning combination). I'm beginning with Men of Numenor, the very first ones I painted 8/9 years ago. The painting was a nuisance for me back then and I'm not an expert at it now (not got a very steady hand for painting) but its interesting to share them regardless.

your new version shows huge improvement the only thing i could suggest is maybe use some ogryn flesh on the skin just to define the face a little more. Overall tho well done :yay:

Thanks. The improvement seems bigger than it actually is because I'm repainting oldest first rather than newest.

For the face I ran out of Bestial Brown when I did those so couldn't use that as the basecoat like I originally hoped. Tried to mix up something similar and it ended up being way too light in the end.

Thanks Hilbert. My progress slowed slightly because of the weather plus the fact that dettoling seems to take me several days.

Anyway, some warriors of Minas Tirith

Faces look a bit odd close up but they look half decent from a distance. Found the Shield design really difficult to do as well. I've also put up a list of stuff that I've got to work through in the coming months (can't wait to get the fortress up and running but I need to make some stairs e.t.c for it so I'll hold off for the moment). Coming up soon I've got some ruins, Moria Goblins and a Cave Troll.

Thanks for looking. I'm trying to repaint the very worst (and usually oldest) first. The improvements will look slightly less dramatic the more I go on I expect.

Got 2 things today, some Ruins (left the big arch piece out because it wouldn't fit in my dettol pot) and Moria Goblins (probably my best to date).

Didn't bother with the old shot for the ruins, but originally they were caked in paint (I'm never going back to a Black undercoat for a predominantly white model ever again). The new shot:

Old Goblins:

The Goblin groupshots blurred so I've left them out. Got loads more coming up soon hopefully, I've got some Orcs on the go and Rohan and Haradrim sprayed and ready to go too.

Tidied up some more old models but my motivation dipped slightly and the men of Rohan were hanging around nearly finished for a couple of weeks. Apologies if the pics are a bit big, they changed the size editing thing on photobucket and I can't be bothered to get to grips with the new thing now.

Old Version

New (still need to tidy up the Shield decorations a bit)

And some Terrain pieces (my favourite to paint as they can be done reasonably well quite quickly)

I've got some nearly finished Mordor Orcs on the way and have begun work on Uruk-Hai and more ruins. I've got some exams coming up next month and I'm starting to run out of some paints e.t.c so it might be a while before I get those up.

Thanks and yes, loads still to do. Unfortunately the recent poor weather and exam revision have set me back with cleaning up the old models. I've only got 12 Haradrim undercoated and the rest still have old paint on them. I have managed to finish off some Uruk-Hai though.

Well I had hoped to have cleaned up just about all my models by now but the weather means I'm probably only about halfway through at best. The models in the picture below are at various stages, as the plastics need another go to be sufficiently clean. The metals, bar the mounted ones, are mostly good to go now.

Image

I did manage to paint a few ruins though. I was going for an Gondor style colour with these (partly to practice for the ruins of Osgiliath that I've bought).

Image

Currently working on the fellowship (not got a wide choice as only a few models are based and undercoated and the weather isn't good enough to prepare any others), beginning with the 4 hobbits.

Very nice ruins. And might I add, the Uruk-hai look a lot better. Not a fan of the bright green bases. Glad you changed that. 8) :-D

Nice scenery :yay:

Good luck w/ the clean-ups.

The green base remonds me of combathex.
