what exactly are his rules atm, i hear a lot of him being able to summon beasts but this power is not listed in the moria/angmar armybook, is the beastcalling a updated rule overruling the book?

if so it makes if far more interresting to me to use

In War of the Ring he is able to summon beasts, but in SBG (Moria and Angmar armybook) he is not.

Indeed he can't summon.
You can download the rules here if you have a GW account:

His rules also require a good number of beasts (most of which are metal) to be any good.

Wargs are plastic and unless you're playing in a GW store or at a tournament, there are plenty of suitable Spider models out there besides the GW ones...

His Enrage Beast is more effective with Bat Swarms, Spider Queens and Warg Chieftains.

Definitely true, but an army only contains so many of those. Warg Chieftains, for one, can be represented by plastic Wargs anyway. Would you not advise taking him unless you had 2-3 of the above listed models?

I wouldn't use him unless you had these yes, usually a couple of Bat Swarms with a Queen and/or a Chieftain or two, or just a Queen and Chieftain, so yes. If you didn't have any, or enough of these, don't bother, even if you do have generic Wargs and Spiders.

Hmm, interesting. I do have some Wargs, a couple Spiders and a Warg Chief in my collection but I dislike the Bat Swarm model. I really need a Spider Queen, but I've never seen the model for it. She seems a little weaker now that she's an independent and costs 40pts more. I suppose Druzhag would affect Shelob, wouldn't he?

Spider Queen is not an Independent Hero if you ally in the Mordor one, which can still lead Giant Spiders.

Druzhag does affect Shelob too, I believe GW recommended doing so in a WD issue.

You also have to consider that he's basically just a very expensive upgrade for the above beasts, and he can only cast a maximum of 5 times.

But those five times...with even just one Bat Swarm: the stats get amazing; a kamakazie elf hero killer, with four wounds to waste on those Strength 10 hits after each use. I've never used him...just theory...but I have been eyeing him for awhile. Add a budget Nazgul to immobilize and Gilgalad would be hard pressed. D3 is worrying...only 2 wounds, yes. Does anyone who has actually used Druzhag have some practical tips?

He might also work nicely when you have Ashrak in your army, venomback spiders (re roll on fail to wound) with 2 str 8 attacks....could hurt i'd say.

Spiders have not enough wounds (like bats, warg chieftain, spider queen, Shelob) nor might (like warg chieftain, spider queen)

Wargs are actually quite fun to enrage as you don't have to care wheter they survive or not. I've used it to tear an Uruk Phalanx in half.

It's actually best if you have other beasts as well.

Aye, you should care Horse Lord as it costs Will, making each enraged Warg cost 13pts so you should stll use them wisely, which is one of the reasons why multi-wound beasts are more useful.
