I have just started LotR a few weeks ago with about 10 games under my belt, but as i have been experimenting with new units, i have run into some rules questions that are probobly quite obvious. I also am going to throw in some other things ive been wondering as not to create multiple topics.

Regarding magic
-When the dice for a spell are rolled, the highest result is used and it can be modified up to 6 by might, is this correct? Also the same for cancelling with will points?
-How many spells can be cast a turn, per caster?
-Who can resist a spell? Is it only the model being targeted, or anyone in range i.e. blinding light?

Regarding some elf characters
-Erestor is listed as haveing Noldorin Throwing Daggers, does this mean he throws 2, and gains an extra attack in combat? or simply a wording issue, as from what ive gathered, daggers are still hand weapons.
Thranduil's Circulet of kings, can the spells be resisted as no will is being expended?

Other general questions
-With the new warbands, is it still advantagous to use more models over big heroes?
-Is taking a hero from another list with no followers good? Such as Legolas or Gandalf by themselves? Or would this be too much of a risk, because in many scenerios models come in randomly?
-How stingy are Tornaments with wysiwyg? As in using galadrim elves for rivendell elves, and proxying elven blades for shields.

I understand basic tactics and have picked up the game rather quickly, and i would like to get some of theses questions out of the way as i am entering my first LotR tornament this weekend. Thanks in advance.

Magic:
-Yes
-one spell per caster in one turn, but multiple will points may be spent for that one spell
-only the model targeted can resist, spells like blinding light can not be resisted as their is no target.

elves:
-erestor throws 1 dagger, and gets to use them in combat like a handweapon .

genaral:
- yes, butt take one reasonably durable hero (like Faramir)
- if you can take followers, take them if not, it's still ok
- it's quite important.

hope this helps 8)

It's not being stingy, its to avoid confusion and no. you would not be able to do this, especially the blades for shields. You are breaking two rules, according to official GW rules if a model is available then you cannot use proxies and all weapons must be shown on the model that are in the wargear list, you definately can't say a sword is a shield.

O.K. thats what I thought, I guess Ill stick to friendly play for now then, I just wast sure if LotR tornaments are the same as others. Is it that big of a deal to use the galadrim elf models? because they look very similar to th last allianc elves aestetically, and the last alliance elf models are really old...

This is a question for the tournament organizer, if they think it's a big deal then you're out of luck. Personally it wouldn't bother me at all. The blade-for-shield would bother me though, as a significant part of playing the game has to do with the aesthetics.

Thanks, I mainly started elves because I loved the galadrim models, and the rivendell fluff, I completely understand the shield thing though.

I personally would say so, especially if you use them as Galadhrim every once in a while. It could get confusing.

Hey guys one more question that i thought i might as well post here, this sounds stupid, but if all models have hand weapons, and elven blades can be used one handed, then can they claim a +1A for having 2 handweapons? This goes off the same logic that 2 handers can use 1 handed because of the same "every model has a handwep" rule.

No. Then they'd have to cost more than a Berzerker.

There is no general rule for having two handweapons in LOTR, unlike 40k or WHFB, Erestor (or any of other folk with two weapons) get the number of attacks listed on their profile.

GW runs some tournaments, but for anything else the WYSIWYG rules are as strict or lax as the tournament organizer chooses to make them. GW's rules are strict, personally I think they're badly thought out but that's neither here nor there. Contact whoever is running the relevant event. Personally if all the elves on the table are Rivendell elves represented by Galadhrim models I would have no trouble keeping them straight and would laugh at anyone who did ;)
