I am new to SBG LOTR -- experience of less than 10 SBG games. Can Evil have Frodo take the ring off when Good has lost control of him during the move phase? The wording of "the controling player" seems to elude yes in my opinion, but a Tolkien fan in my gaming group disagrees. Thank you in advance for replies. I did some searches on this site in various sections to see if this question had already been asked, but I was unable to find any answers.

Sure he can, the rulebook is clear "The player that controls (not only the Good) Frodo can,etc..."

Hope it helps :frodo:

Sorry I meant to use "alludes" not "eludes" before, totally different meaning. Thank you for the previous reply. I will wait for replies from more players. Thanks.

If the evil player has control of Frodo, the evil player can make Frodo do whatever the player wants, but not anything that will hurt Frodo, like jumping off a cliff. The evil player could do this in order to make Frodo visible to the player's troops so that they can see and attack him.

I am also interested in hearing house rules for Frodo wearing "The Ring"; rules governing wearing the ring (which individual may wear the ring, how and when it can be taken off...). This issue has caused many loud and emotional "discussions" in my gaming group and has delayed our game progression multiple times. I would really like to hear from experience players as to how all of you understand GW's "The Ring" rule and please let me know if you have read the books because my friend believes I would interpret the rule differently if I've read the books. Regardless of reading the books or not, I still stand on the idea that GW's wording of "the controlling player" implies whomever has control of Frodo during that Move Phase.

Finally, this is not about collecting points for which side is right/wrong, but resolving an understanding of the rule. I would like to be able to keep playing and hosting LOTR SBG, but will not and cannot do so until this issue is resolve. My group of gaming friends are very reasonable, but at the moment, we need outside opinions. Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts.

The rules make a few distiction, Good Player and Controlling player. The Controlling player is whoever has control of Frodo that turn - Good or Evil. So if the controlling player is Evil then he can attempt to remove the Ring as normal with a Courage test.
