Hi @donuthare. Yep the site looks pretty ordinary at the moment, but that will change now that I'm back and working on things again.

Perhaps controversially, I suggest the 2010 Awards be cancelled. Alan surely has enough to contend with just getting the website looking pretty and operating correctly. It will dissapoint many who worked hard on their entries but I feel priorities must be made. I say use the next six months to get everything sorted and iron out the bugs, and look forward to the 2011 awards this summer. We can just say the awards took a gap year to travel.

In the meantime, maybe we can rekindle the monthly mini challenge, where a model is mutually agreed upon as the subject to paint. Just for fun of course?

Might be a good idea :). Besides more time for people to work on their entries :P

The monthly challenges were a lot of fun. Maybe one of the Ringwraiths would be willing to head that up?

I'd really like for the monthly challenges to make a return. Whilst I hadn't entered before, now that I'm getting back into painting LotR figures again this could be a fun way to encourage more painting.

I totally agree. While the site is clawing its way back to life, this would be a great way to get people talking and posting again.

For the win!

With Alans permission I've restarted the monthly Painting Challenges. Vote for the February miniature here.

Would it be possible, with the site as it is now, to hold the one ring awards in a few months time?
I don't know what everyone thinks about it, but maybe it would be possible in a slightly more simple version (for example pm'ing the entries to one of the moderators and then voting for anonymous entries in a thread?)

Just an idea.

Well the redesign is now underway so I think it'd be beneficial for everybody if we just hold off until it's finished as it'd be better to do them properly than to host an unrefined version of them. It's a nice idea to do something simpler to tide us over but that's partly what the challenges are for and we've waited for the reboot of the OR awards for long enough now that a few more months can't hurt.

The OR Awards were the Annual (or Bi-annual, it's that long ago I can't remember) big competition on the OR. There were a few categories (Painting, Sculpting/Converting, Terrain, Beginners and Master Craftsmen - I think that's all of them) in which people had a a while to create their entries for and submit them. There would then be a month (or something close to it) of voting. The first, second and third place in each category would win a prize.

Master Craftsmen was a set theme each time (the latest Awards theme was 'MAGIC').

Here's the rules announcement for the 2010 Awards that never happened thanks to some hacking [word deleted]s - viewtopic.php?f=70&t=18209 - Hopefully that can explain them better for you.

It's early days but as part of the site rebuild I am starting to look at updating the One Ring Award rules with a view to the One Ring potentially re-launching our annual competition at some point.

It's early days yet, but hopefully we might have a great annual competition for you in the future. This would be in addition to the well established monthly challenges.

I will try and keep you updated from time to time so watch this space.

I've been working behind the scenes to refresh the rules of the awards so we are getting closer. Some more work is required before we could relaunch but we are working on it.

I will definitely post here when I have anything more concrete. :-)
