so how badly do you need these models ?
plastic boxed set and casualties look good, but at those prices ....

casualties come very handy for dioramas.. but well, i think they should come in like blisters of 3 dead gondorians/orcs/etc.. unless you collect a bit of every army or you make 20 dioramas a year, you won't have a use for 80% of the products in the package.. on the other hand you could just "kill" your normal soldiers..

As previously with LOTR releases I think these guys are going to grow on me.
I'm going to hold judgement on the watcher until I see it, as the angle we have isn't great, and I reckon the goblin king could be similar. The baby balrog thing might be ok - it's hard to tell the size of it.
The Easties all look great, with the command options on the Kataphracts looking very useful.
I love the Gorgoroth Beast, it would be fun to paint, but will have to wait on the rules. It may well be my first dabble into finecast and my first new mini in 2 years.
I also really like the warg as a stand alone mini, but don't think it fits too well with other minis - a bit like early 90s WHFB!

The stuff I'm most excited about is the extra command options - can't wait for photos.

Ha! Yes, I too find the goblins riding the warg to be amusing, though I do think it fits in with Tolkien (though I wouldn't have THREE goblins on a warg)- after all, the wargs and goblins were good enough friends to get together for a little happy pillaging in The Hobbit.

As for the Gorgoroth Beast, looks nice, probably won't get it- the easterlings will excite some of my friends, though. The rock-climbing goblin is... disturbing. As is his little friend. And the watcher... I suppose that the legs had to be attached to something, but that...???

Now, the 'Dweller in the Deep' thingee might have merit... maybe. Depends on his profile, and how he's different from Ghulavar. Though now I might have something to actually contest with 'the Flying Monkey (Ghulavar's nickname)' for that glorious title- I mean, that guy looks even more like a monkey than ever before. Though *sniff, sniff* my poor little do-gooders are finding themselves shorthanded...

@ Dezarfox The prices on some of them look crazy!! If all this is correct then I doubt that the books will be much interesting, at least the Free Peoples one. Since it only has 64 pages and it needs to include Rohan, Dwarves, Elves, Gondor and Arnor as well as the other miscallenious figures. The Gorgoroth beast looks great, as far as the Watcher goes... I am really interested to see how they will accommodate for him regarding land warfare. The demon thing if it is indeed what Gandalf mentioned, doesn't make sense coming to the surface and fighting. All the goblins look great except from the hooligan hanging from the rock. I can see him only as a diorama post. Overall great news for LotR. We get our hands on the new products, I hope they don't stray too much from Tolkien's world.

These books are freaking awesome! All of the Elf rules in one book?! No ambiguity, no hunting through the rule books, White Dwarf and the web?! And only £12...

Rohan had all of 4 pages in the main book... So it can't be much worse

I don't see why people would accept Gulavhar but not the new demon. Morgoth had a lot of guys in his service, including 7 balrogs. Only 3 balrogs were confirmed dead at the end of the 3rd age, so there's probably at least one more out there.
There are only 4 books listed up there, where's the 5th?
The watcher has legs, that's how it incorporates land warfare.

If they made them into rough terrain or some such I would be annoyed. I'd simply place blank bases for dead then. I already have to have a mounted and foot version for my rohan army, im not adding casualties to my list of number of models to paint to have 1 gameable figure...
