There are two releases in February according to the calendar. One early, one mid. So we could see two waves of stuff, or two different things released etc.

This being released now would fit nicely with 6th Edition 40k, as well as the new rules for the Hobbit, otherwise it would be very cramped later on in the year.

This also confirms that those supplements are in fact army based supplements. If not, what kind of a bussiness plan would that be? :p

Nice! I can see how WOTR can become a expansionist game because really, it is only for people who already have tons of models.

As we mentioned here earlier, we were told back in December that, apart from the reboxing and new rulebooks, some stores at least will be revising the layout - I know in our local GW they are planning a huge new LOTR table. So it looks like they'll sustain the push throughout the year, and LOTR will get some love over 40K.

Just got home with my copy of White Dwarf.

5 new army books, £12 each.

Armies are now made up of warbands, each warband has a hero and upto 12 warriors. Not read properly yet, but that seems to be the general idea.

Interesting, sounds a little like SAGA, the game I'm playing at the minute (Dark Age historical game by Gripping Beast).

A few more details, each of the sourcebooks has army lists, 6 scenarios (the same I think, replacing those in LoME) and some “narrative” scenarios.

Each army consists of warbands containing a hero and up to 12 Warriors. Fellowship (and I think White Council) have a special rule allowing multiple heroes in a warband.

You can include any warband from the same faction (ie good or evil). So no more lists of who can ally with who.

There also appears to be no more themed lists, so a single Rohan army, and a single dwarf army etc. I can't confirm that without seeing the actual books, but that is what the description leads me to believe.

There are 2 battle reports and the points look about the same as before.

Deployment seems to take it in turns at placing warbands, although I don't think they have to stay together once deployed.

Thematically, I don't like the new allies (everyone on the side of good can ally with everyone else who is good), but in gameplay terms, I like it. Is there still a 1/3 rule on bow?

It does mention that Grey Company can all take bows, so implies a bow limit. It doesn’t mention bow limits anywhere else though.

@ Farmer Maggot or Dezertfox:

Any idea based on the battle reports to see if the points or profiles for the old models have changed much?

Will this replace SBG or is it a new system?

Most points look the same to me, I haven't compared them in detail but nothing jumps out.

It replaces the Legions of Middle Earth, the core rules stay the same.
