Nice to see a dragon painted blue, I think it's the first time I see one in that colour, you've done a great paint job there! :)

I have placed the dragon on the sidelines for now since I was getting impatient with it. Moved on to finishing my castellans, still had two to do.
Here they are in the group shot, the two I finished last are on the ends.
They were done primarily with washes, dark angels green and badab black mixed at various ratios and applied as a glaze and/or wash. Chainmail for the metal and thinned down blood red.

Here is Grimbold, I also have Erkenbrand and a captain to take pics of. The fur changed when I put on the matte varnish, which I will post with the others.

Use matt varnish, it is too glossy.

Lets see, if I remember correctly......
1 part medium talus ( woodland scenics)
1part fine talus (woodland scenics)
1/2 part fine green turf ( woodland scenics)
1/4 scorched grass (gale force nine)
1/4 glade grass ( GW )

His is approximate, it may actually be as little as 1/8 for the grasses.

Mix it all together in a container, put PVA glue on the base ( I don't even thin it with water ), dig a small hole(about 25mm works well :) ) in the mix, place base in it and either scoop the mix on top or just tilt the container to cover the base. Take the model out, tap it on the side of the container, then hold it upside down over a trashcan and blow over it to help the grass stand up.
Done

I had never thought about mixing different products. That's interesting and I like how it looks.

I love the Erkenbrand mini. I really need to pick him up, but my Rohan army has taken the back burner for some years now. You've done a good job on these fellows, and I really like your basing method for Riddermark-type terrain. Keep up the good work!

Erkenbrand looks fantastic as well as the others. I agree with Erunion about picking up one of those models. It's just such a fantastic model.

Thanks guys. I think my highlights/shading are still coming out a little on the "not popping" side and a little chalky. I am probably thinning my paint a little too much. All these models were painted with the same colors, only erky got some white and mithril silver.
Scorched brown
Menoth red base (p3)
Olive (VMC)
medium olive(VMC)
Black green ink(VGC)
Chardonite granite
Dark flesh(VMC)
Elf Flesh
Boltgun metal
Brass(VMC)-same as tin bitz really
calthan brown
Khemri brown
Red(VMC)
Linen White and weathered stone( reaper master series )

I have a real love hate relationship with the reaper paints. I love their colors, but the consistency is so so creamy that it is hard to thin. But then again maybe I thin to much :).

Oh, as another aside, these were primed with Vallejo acrylic-polyurethanebrush on primer. Really like this stuff, I have the grey, which is a really light light grey-almost white, but it does come in other colors so can be used a a base coat. This stuff really goes on well and seems to suck right down to the metal and does not hide details. Nice hard suface that takes paint very well. I prefer brush on for my metals as it seems to stick better than aerosols.
