AHH, so his word should be trusted. I can see a "Trapped in the Misty Mountains" starter set that includes the 13 dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf versus whatever new molds of goblins and the great goblin. There really won't be any other part of the movie that would translate into a starter set imo.

Quite possibly, as I don't think the warg encounter or the stone trolls are big enough in terms of bringin in. Also, that is the closest Hobbit scene to MoM.

Something tells me that this is more on scale with the films anyway.

????? Not sure what you mean Chris:
24 minis £15 - 18 months ago
12 minis £13 - now, therefore:
24 minis £26 - now = nearly double the price!

Time to sell and trade all my spares!

When i first got into the hobby, i remember going into my first games workshop with my parents when shopping for christmas presents, this must have been 6/7 years ago and seeing a box of the last alliance warriors, 24 to a box £12 and thinking back then that it was a lot, never though they'd be an increase like this!

I'll be honest, this has encouraged me to consider buying models such as galadhrim warriors and dwarfs as it's cheaper n some respects if you only want 12, but in the long run it's not... oh Games Workshop :(

In the interests of WOTR scale armies remaining viable for new players, my suggestions are: Conquest Games, Perry Miniatures, Wargames Factory (and their Orcs are MORE Tolkien, IMO), Warlord Games, and Gripping Beast for massed plastics. There is an even broader range of metals from other manufacturers to support this.

I've seen a number of blogs (in addition to mine :) ) where people have been putting a lot of historicals in their forces.

GW must LOVE SBG afterall ;)

I thank the Lord that over the last two years I bought and bought plastics off ebay even though I didn't need them. I have ALL I need to create a 1500+ army in WoTR with what I have already purchased. I worried at the time because I thought it was (which it was) another sign of my 'addictive' (in the sense that I have no willpower) personality.

So where, GW, is the incentive for me to add to my collection?

More worrying is the enticement of new players. Who wouuld enter into WoTR given the start up costs?

Yet WoTR is the best rules system GW have written (with one minor glitch: the cost of Epic Hero Ringwraiths).

Sad, truly sad.

Stephen

Tag: WoTR is brilliant if you use these two 'house-rules' - You cannot have more Ringwraiths than you have Winged Nazgul; you cannot cast 'Strength Through Corruption' on enemy units. Try it!
