Hi semi new to the LOTR SBG in the sense of collected but never played years ago, now my question is there anywhere online that still has the fantasy fellowship rules as i cant find them on the GW website or in the resource list on here.

Any help would be great as i remember looking at them online years ago and thinking the rules and set up seemed fun.

Thanks

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by Fantasy Fellowship. Are you talking like creating your own Fellowship, a Fellowship 'campaign' that goes through the books or what-if scenarios?

If i remember correctly it was rules to make your own fellowship with either all or some alternate characters to the proper fellowship, that then lead to a bunch of scenario's from the books/films to play out, i think it even had a tree of which scenario was next depending on if you won or lost the last scenario.

I think these are the rules:

You have 700 Points of Heroes, and must take 9 Heroes, to replace the current members of the Fellowship. You must also pick a Ringbearer and Companion, who count as part of the nine, and your points total.
- Frodo and Sam
- Bilbo and Gandalf
- Elrond and Isildur

Here's an example I made quickly (not sure if the points are right), with the Fellowship member being replaced in brackets:
Frodo (Frodo), Sam (Sam), Fredegar Bolger (Merry), Glorfindel (Pippin), Saruman the White (Gandalf), Elrond (Aragorn), Wood Elf Captain (Legolas), Haldir (Boromir), Balin (Gimli)
Heroes that are bought as pairs replace two Heroes:
Frodo (Frodo), Sam (Sam), Murin (Merry), Drar (Pippin), Elladan (Gandalf), Elrohir (Aragorn), Glorfindel (Legolas), Dwarf King (Boromir), Dwarf King (Gimli)

That all seems familiar from what i remember reading online years ago, any chance someone has a saved copy of the complete thing from when it used to be on the GW site?

Thanks

I don't have them saved, but according to my records, there were two White Dwarf articles about it, the first in issue 284, which covered FotR and Two Towers, and 290, which added the RotK scenarios and maybe changed the rules a bit.

BGiME had an even better version of it. In it you basically started with the Ringbearer and two (or three?) companions, met Aragorn or Gandalf in Bree, chose the real fellowship in Rivendell with options for different hero roles (i.e. no points based selection). IF I remember correctly...

Sorry to revive a two year old thread but I am desperate for these rules to do my own fantasy fellowship campaign.

Did anyone have any luck finding the rules? Google isn't helping me.

I might have those WD. I'll take a look.

WD question though. Somewhere I heard, the issue numbering between Europe and US is off by one? If yes, which way?

Thanks, Xin

If anyone has BGiME 60 (Boromir on front), the rules (or a similar version) are in there. Don't have access to it at the moment, but if people are interested I can have a look in a week's time when I'm back home. :)

Here's a simplified version of what's in BGIME 60:

Choose one Ringbearer: Frodo or Bilbo
Choose one Companion: Sam, Bilbo, Aragorn, or Frodo
Choose one Guide: Gandalf the Grey, Elrond, Galadriel or Celeborn
Choose one Champion: Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas, or Gimli
Choose three Warriors: Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas, Gimli, Faramir, Éomer, Haldir or Arwen
Choose two Allies: Frodo, Sam, Bilbo, Merry or Pippin

Shadow of the Ring: The Evil player may choose one of the Fellowship's Warriors to be subject to this rule. Before the start of every game, the Good player permanently reduces either the Might Will or Fate value of each character affected by the Shadow of The Ring by one point. Eventually all three of these characteristics will be reduced to 0 and the character becomes a Thrall of the Ring subject to the following rules:

-- The character is set up with the rest of the Fellowship, but is considered to be an Evil model under the control of the Evil player.
-- The model's Might is restored to its starting value but no other models may benefit from any Heroic Actions he calls with them.
-- The model may only charge the Ringbearer and, until he does so, the rest of the Fellowship may not attack him by any means.
-- At the end of the game, the model is counted as a casualty and takes no further part in the campaign.

Note: Boromir is not immediately fated to die in the campaign, so he begins the campaign with 3 Fate points and costs 50 extra points in points match scenarios.

I was thinking about it and although they are really cool rules I don't like the bit where the model affected by the Shadow Of The Ring is taken out of the campaign permanently.

This character is basically the Boromir of that fellowship right? I think a campaign should allow (even against all odds) the chance for this character to survive. Keep reducing their points each game, but to simply remove that character from the game after a certain number of fights seems a bit silly.

Just my two pennies worth.

The white dwarf version allowed for a lot more flexibility and only the ringbearer and companion choices were restricted.
