In light of DocDeath asking about the Elven Army list, I wanted to ask everyone how the rate all 9 Army lists in WOTR.

So I thought I'd list some questions to get a feel from everyone what they think, because I'm still reasonably new to this game and I have also thought of collecting another Army, but when you have never played a certain army or played against a certain army it's hard to know if they are good or not by just looking at the book.

1- From 1-9 how do they personally rate the armies from there experience either playing or playing against?
2- What army do you play now & what army is it best suited to defeat & lose against?
3- For each army list, what would you say is the best point level to play at to make them the most competitive?

Assuming 1 is best, 9 is worst.

Part A.
Fallen Realms 1
Moria 2
Gondor/Arnor 3
Mordor 4
Rohan 5
Elves 6
Dwarves 7

No comment on Isengard or Angmar

Part B.
I still play Rohan, occasionally with dwarf allies. It's best used in a "support" role, ie: team play. I've excelled against Mordor, Moria and Elves. Fallen Realms frustrate me to no end. It really depends on the scenario though. Typically I'm on a team and I run the fast-moving cavalry support that usually spearheads an assault.

Part C.
Rohan needs AT LEAST 1000points. I've never really tested their effectiveness at anything above 1500pts though.

Here is the rest:
Rankings (for single-player lists, using allies, have yet to see any evidence that points level above 1000pts makes a difference, does not IME):

Top-Tier (Coincidence of cheap troops and heroes)
1. Mordor
Next. (some minor issues, though I've seen *some* Moria lists that belong in the top-tier)
2. Fallen Realms
2. Moria
2. Gondor
2. Isengard
Then.
6. Angmar
6. Dwarves
6. Rohan
Elves.
9. Elves

I play Angmar (up to 1500), Isnegard (2000), Gondor (2000+). Isengard and Gondor can comfortably take all comers and I do not tailor lists. Angmar struggles a little more vs str4 armies (which is why it is third tier) but I do not tailor that list either. Most of the time we play 1000 pts because most of our games need to be shorter and fit on a 6'x4' table and we discovered fairly early on that more points didn't add anything or materially affect balance (assuming lists are constructed correctly) but did more spectacle/fun so we now save those for when we have the time to do it properly.

What I say about the lists and their order will be pretty similar to what Xelee said, but I'll say it anyway.

1. Mordor
2. Moria
2. Gondor
2. Fallen Realms
5. Isengard
5. Dwarves
7. Rohan
7. Angmar
9. Elves

The are three armies that I use for a main force, mostly Angmar and Mordor, though I dabble in the Fallen Realms. I never play good guys, and Isengard isn't evil enough, and Moria is too annoying in their core troops (goblins). I really loves the beasts, monsters and spirits hence my prefernce for Angmar, and Gothmog and Mordou Uruk-hai are ib the Mordor list. Fallen Realms just looks cool. With Mordor armies I am careful not to choose anything to good, similarly with Fallen Realms, but as Angmar is so much poorer than the other too, I tend t use MM and/or Mordor allies and have started reducing the spirits as my armies were too low on UBRPV (unnoficial but reasonable pts value), and I aim to have a UBRPV within a 100pts of the real pts value ie not better than a 100 over (too good), or worse than a 100 under (too bad).

For pts values, pretty much what has already been said, any army at 2,000pts but armies like Elves especially really struggle any lower.

The only reason why i would collect elves i becasue i love the metal spearmen, im sure all would agree that they are great models.

Gondor is good, but no monster choices is annoying, but with ent allies i think gondor could be pretty competitive and balanced. If you ask me though and if i had all the minis i would by far prefer to have several companies of WoMT than an ent, much more competitive ( that being 5 companies or 1 ent?)

Dwarves look great on the paper, i have had only a few games agaisnt them and they didnt relay do so well ( in fact i one every game :yay: ), despite great defence stats strength etc.

I dont know what the most competitive is, people seem to be saying mordor. But i know my favourite is gondor.

I've run a pair of allied normal Ents for Gondor before but don't anymore and I really do not miss having monsters. Most of the really useful ones are in the Evil lists and I think the better good options would be the hero Ents (though costly), Kings Champion and Three Hunters. The reality is that Gondor can have monsters but likely doesn't want them. :) Unlike say Moria, which can have Mumaks and generally seems to want them!

Dwarf armies ARE relatively quite small (heh) but I do think they are comparable to Rohan and Angmar in that they can be ok with quite a focused list.

1st - Mordor, Nazgul and Morannon Orcs are the main reasons why Mordor is so good.
2nd - Moria, very cheap formations and Epic Heroes.
3rd - Gondor and Fallen Realms, Gondor has excellent basic troops (Warriors of Minas Tirith) and Fallen Realms get Nazgul.
4th - Isengard and Dwarves, both good but expensive formations.
5th - Rohan, hard to get the best out of them.
6th - Angmar, very limited choice.
7th - Elves, too expensive.

I play Gondor, so I'll talk a little about them. Gondor's greatest strength is it's basic formation, the Warriors of Minas Tirith. These guys are both cheap and tough, and don't really have any weakness. As well as the Warriors of Minas Tirith, Gondor has several other nice formations, such as the Knights. Gondor also has a wide selection of good Heroes (especially Faramir), and therefore a lot of Might.

I couldn't give you a top 9 list if I'm honest as I have only seen 4 Armies played and thats Mordor, Gondor, Misty Mountains and Dwarves.
I used to play the Dwarves and found them a boring army to play, and a little predictable so sold them and collected a Misty Mountain army. So far the only army my MM army has fought is a Gondor Army at 1200 points, and so far my opponent is struggling to defeat me, so my list would be Dwarves last with Gondor 3rd, but untill I play my friend who keeps hiding with his Mordor Army, I can't say weather the MM or Mordor is the best.

The thing I love the most about the MM list is the access to great monsters, I love the dragon!!!!
