I've only purchased one Finecast miniature and I wasn't impressed. I think a monsters-only challenge could be interesting, though.

Nope, I'm not going to buy a Finecast model since I have a backlog of around 500 other LOTR figures, so I vote no on that score. However, I like Dave's Command Group idea a lot and I have just the figures in mind...

Command Group or Monster would be equally interesting.

I voted yes because I've already got a finecast model waiting to be painted.

Since both monsters and command are special troops , there could be a 'star troops' one where you can pick any hero, command or monster?

I know September's votes are already being cast, but here's an idea for October...

Royalty

It could be any king, queen or prince, Theoden, Elessar, the Witch King, Prince Imrahil, a Dwarf King, Durin the Deathless, Dain, a King of Men, Gil-Galad, Thranduil, Serpent King, King of the Dead, King Arvedui, and even the Spider Queen.

That is a really cool idea Alan! I have a Witch-king that I can do for this...would Balin be a possibility as well?

I like the royalty idea as well, but it might be a bit too broad. It might also be hard to decide who counts as royalty.

That's a great theme Alan. If we could come up with a few themes it would allow us to have a vote each time we do one of these 'special' challenges as well.

As for being in October, personally I wanted to space them out a bit more between a couple of months of our usual challenges (which I like because you can compare peoples painting on the same mini).

What I would ideally like to do is have 1 special challenge per quarter (ie. 1 in March, 1 in June, 1 in September and 1 in December and then our usual challenges inbetween).

Can I have peoples opinions on this set up please? Afterall the challenges are for the community so you have to be happy with it too. So what do you all think, would that set up make the special challenges too frequent, or are they nicely spaced out?

I like your plan, Jake. It's nice to have these challenges to hold us over until the OR awards can be resurrected!

I'm brand new to the community but I'd say that sounds awesome! To have a normal challenge keeps things simple and a special one every few months will keep things exciting! Those dates all happen to be during my breaks from school (when I'm home!) :-D !

Just realised I put one in August but corrected it to one in September.

Glad you like the idea. If others are in agreement I'll need a few ideas for themes that we can put in the polls, I have a couple in mind and Alan has suggested the Royalty theme but other suggestions are more than welcome and appreciated.

Ideas
Characters From a Specific Scene ex: Witchking, Eowyn, Merry
Color Challenge (models with a similar predominant color such as red, green, or blue). It would create unity throughout the models but allow freedom in model choice.

I like the colour challenge, would be interesting to see what imaginitive things people could come up with.

As for the characters from a scene I'm a little unclear, do you mean people could paint a group of characters from a set scene of their choice (aragorn, legolas, gimli and the king of the dead for example) or do you mean a scene will be decided beforehand (the council of elrond for example) and entrants paint one miniature of their choice from said scene?
