Hi so I was wondering which of the ringwraiths are the best and which are the worst. Could you please rank them by your personal preferences and give reasons why.

Thank You

I wouldn't like to rank them thought Witch king is number one...
It really depends on which army you play with, which army you play against, your objectives and your strategy...

So all of the ringwraiths excel at different things?

Khamul is undoubtedly the best of them.

Of course, it depends a lot on which game your playing.

In WOTR, Khamul is the best, with the Betrayer and the Knight of Umbar in the top 3, then you have the Dwimmerlaik, The Tainted and The Dark Marshal, with the Shadow Lord next folloed by the Undying with the Witch-king being the worst.

In SBG, the best is the Shadow Lord, other strong choices are the Dwimmerlaik, the Dark Marshal, the Undying and a few others, the worst being Khamul. With the exception of the Shadow Lord, and possibly Khamul, it depends what you want from your wraith as they are suited for different roles.

Did that help?

I agree with all that GothmogtheWerewolf said regarding Wraiths in War of the Ring. However, in my experience Khamul is actually one of the most powerful wraiths in SBG due to his will-regeneration capabilities (especially important in larger games, but powerful even in 500 pts). You can capitalize on this by mounting him on a horse or Fell Beast, and his ability to boost his stats can also be crucial when fighting heroes.

So for me (in SBG) it would go roughly like this:

Shadowlord
Khamul, Undying
Knight of Umbar, Dwimmerlaik, Dark Marshal, Witch-King (solely for his ability to break staffs)
Tainted
Betrayer

...although it's very much up for debate :P. As was said earlier, it really depends on your army and the scenario. But I would consistently rank the Shadowlord first and the Betrayer last. Of course, your choice of Ringwraith could also depend on the theme of your army.

everybody says that the betrayer is horrible, but in the theory he could make an excellent hit squad with some serpent raiders.
I don't have much experience with him though, so I might be wrong...

shadow lord beets them all though, and the witch-king can turn into a killer if you give him the crown of morgul.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking if getting The Shadow Lord, The Knight Of Umbar and The Undying. The Shadow Lord will be a good arrow defence, The Knight Of Umbar will be good on the frontline and The Undying will be useful in longer games. Hopefully this will give me enough variety :) Also what is the Tainted good at? As he looks really cool so I will probably get him as well. Also is the Witch Kings Helm thing worth the points?

Thanks

Tainted mini is great but his special rules affect you warriors as well
Last witch king with three attacks is deadly and is worth the points :D

If you were doing an all wraith team probably go for: Tainted, undying, knight of umbar and shadow lord

What would be the tactic for this force?
In a bigger game I could see this with orcs and some trolls as being quite effective.

Well they would have to all be on fell beasts, so the fell beasts do most of the physical killing. The wraiths use all their might to get as many heroic fights/moves (except for the tainted who isn't allowed near them) in the hope that the enemy force will break quickly, once this has happened the tainted swoops in right next to the enemy leader to negate the stand fast, meaning even more deaths from fleeing cowards! Meanwhile knight of umbar is going after those who refuse to be transfixed and have a nice statline (glorfindel lord of the west) shadow lord cancels out enemy bowfire and does standard ringwraith duty (negation) and undying collects 3 will points per turn from the other ringwraiths casting spells, so he can cast a black dart with 3-4 dice per turn and recover most of the will next round. Ontop of this each wraith kills up to 6 models per turn (13 models should die each turn, and once the enemy breaks that number increases)

This actually sounds like a great idea. Also as the ringwraiths cause terror it will be hard for the enemy to charge them and on fell beast they will be able to get to the enemy quickly. When you buy the ringwraiths on horse do they come separately to thier horse or are they attached?

Well Gw sell them as foot and mounted blister packs. If you are talking in game terms then equipping a wraith with a horse costs 10 points and the horse can die seperatley to the wraith, meaning the wraith will have to resort to fighting on foot!

Also it is better to have a horse...
Ringwraiths are more good being behind a line...
You go,cast a spell, you leave and with a horse it is more easy not to get caught...
