@: Yep quite happy with them, will certainly keep me going for a bit.

@neptonianpoker4: Cheers mate :)

@Cyndra the Grey: Overall it was around 50 quid, but there were also quite a bit of plastics that came along with it. There's just under 100 metal models there.

@polarbird2: I bet :D

Hey guys, well in a few days I'm going to be using my Helm's Deep board for a 6 player match on Thursday. The most of the structure is done but it still needs all the detail, and that's what I need help with. I want it to actually look lived in and used. All I can think of is hanging shields, barrels and some weapon stashes. I'm also keen on the idea of making a spear rack, but having trouble making it - any hints? I had the idea of maybe some sacks of grain near the front, so they would be sandbags sort of shape. I'll post some pics below to help you picture where you want them placed etc... Anything else you can add would be most helpful.

The Helms Deep looks cool! 8)
I think spears,arrows and javelins were tided up in bundles.I would make lots and barrels of rocks for the defenders to cast down on the attackers. A weapon rack vs a barrel of spears? I think most of the ammunition would come from deep storage. The racks would be there.
To make weapon racks I would use match sticks and a round file. Cut notches in the tooth pick for the weapons and glue the tooth pick to the wall. I would stain all of the wood before you glue anything.I don't think pegs would show in this scale unless you wanted to use fuse wire. Free standing racks would be in deep storage areas.
I am looking forward to see what you come up with.

looks great

If you want to prepare it for a siege try some of the following things.
-barrels with/stacks of arrows both on the deeping wall and the walls of the keep. (a barrel in every corner and every 5/8ish cm along the walls)
-piles of rocks.
-stacks with weapons
-pots with hot oil/tar (above the gates and maybe some on the deeping walls (for direct use and fire arrows?)
-timber to reinforce/repair the gates
-torches and how do you call those metal frameworks with burning coals
-waterbuckets close to any wooden buildings (won't be a lot in a stone keep :wink: )
-large poles with an hook to use against siege ladders.
-banners
-for the walls with an sloped hill you might want to add a construction with tarred logs attached to the walls. (once burning and released they can be used to scatter an enemy)
-small timber and sandbags (like you said) for the broken battlements
-haystacks

And personally I would throw in a few small artillery pieces (probably bolt throwers, but if im correct rohan hasn't got any artillery.)
I wouldn't use to many crates as they would stand in the way in case of an retreat to the keep.

looking forward to seeing all those new miniatures painted.

@BilboOfTheWhiteTower - Thanks, glad you like it. :)

@Oldman Willow - Right, I'll have a little of everything although I'm struggling for what to use as barrels. I made a quick rack anyway since it was pretty straight forward.

@Hilbert - Yep will have a battle this Thursday with 6 people playing.

@aqan - Oh brilliant list Aqan, I'll see what I can sort out for that. Thanks for the in depth input :D

Here's where I am so far, will try and get some more on today. I have some grain bags at the side, along with a spear rack and lighting. Any idea's for barrels?

looks good so far, but the weapon rack would be more usefull on the walls and in the courtyard.

If you want barrels, saw a thick rod to the right size, then glue two thin strips of cardboard to it as barrel hoops and paint it.
It sounds a bit to simple, but it looks good. 8)

@aqan - Okay followed your instructions and that has seemed to work. Although I haven't put rings around the barrel yet, I'm not that sure if it needs. It's quite difficult to get the cardboard that thin.

@garmenhord - "deeping it out to the smallest details" I like the phrase, lol 8) Cheers

@BilboOfTheWhiteTower - :)

I cut some brass pipes and then just shoved some thin pieces of balsa in it. What you think? I'll get the rims on too.

Drum 8)

I've been around for some time actually, probably not very long, though. I have been following everything you've done so far and it's magnificent work! 8) I just never had the urge, till now, to post something up.

I don't think I saw what you made your Helm's Deep out of. Was it foam board? Planned for years to start my own, but never knew where to start. Any suggestions?

Anyway... Keep up the great work, and I'll pop in every now and then to add something if needed! 8) :-D

@Hilbert - As polarbird2 says, we shall see. I'll trying and post a few pics up if you folks want.

@Wah Wing - Thanks! The Helm's Deep was made out of a sort of foamboard without the paper backsides. It was actually originally underfloor noise silencer. You can see more of it on my very first post, it shows some early stages. 8)

@Oldman Willow - Ah that would have been a good idea, unfortunately I already started with the cardboard after all but it worked not bad.

@GothmogtheWerewolf - I wish, it's nowhere to that standard. I think what'll help is once it's filled up with things so it looks lived in.

Shall have an update later on today. 8)
