As ever impressed with your work mate.
I agree the 'mushrooms' look to cartoonish for LOTR. As for colors though I'm envisaging green. A very dak stem with an almost neon cap leading up to a yellowish top. May give them a sinister feel.

I found some more and I will give the idea a try. I am running a scan on the computer for more icky wear and viruses after a friend repaired the computer. I will have more time to finish up some projects next week. :)

Tough the tree house isn't exactly like how I imagined them in the books, I really like it.

And I absolutely adore those mushrooms.
Personally I would go for a dark colour scheme with some red and maybe some gold(ish) bits and a very dark green wash.

Looking forward to the next update

My Broken leg has slowed me down but Linda found this tree for me.I think it will work as a Mirkwood spider tree or a tree house. I will have to wait about another week to see if I can work in the shop.
I will think about it .
What do you think?

I have not been able to look through my bark for a base but I am going to do something close to this I think.I have a few more vines that might look better. If I am hopeful I may be able to make a tree house that can be swapped for the spiders nest.It will be cool to do both.

Thanks and let me know what you think

Getting ready for the Hobbit

I am going to pick 24 orcs and 24 small orc/goblins from my older armies and re-base them like my current goblins for Goblin Town. I am going to convert some of (at least 24) of my older wolf riders to the current round 40mm bases as well.I think the plastic spiders will do for now.
The D&D wolfs, bats and Halloween spiders are a big hit with Jennie(4) she wants to play the Hobbit Now :!:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y30LAj50 ... re=related
I will have to make trees the dwarfs can climb.
Any one know where to find plastic toy eagles?

I am working on some more large Old Forest trees. I would like to make some trees large enough for 15 models to climb to escape the wolf riders. I am going to visit my brother and pick some more lichen and bark this week end.

More maternal for Mirkwood.
Image
I need more bark for Goblin Town
I have a much better plain in mind because I have seen some images from some of the Hobbit set on the Facebook links.

I mixed glue and black craft paint and over painted the bark. I added sand with a sifter and gave it another coat of thin black glue to color the sand. I am not going to be able to work on it until Monday. The glue will soak into the bark and sand and hold well. I will dry brush the rock with slate and medium gray then give it a ivory highlight before I add flocking.

The dark gray and neutral gray dry brush
Image Image Image
The slate gray dry brush.

I will make a brown glue wash and go over the bark. When it is dry I will dry brush it again with a smaller brush. I will dry brush some light browns and ivory before I flock.

This is the direction I am going with this. Suggestions are welcome.
