I recently bought a wizard 'model' for 50p from a car boot sale. He is the right scale for SBG or just slightly too large.

I need help building a profile for him. He is standing with both arms aloft holding a standard sized sword in his hands (one clasping the handle, the other clasping the blade). He also has two daggers on his belt and has a baby dragon standing behind him. (like a cat would stand behind it's owners legs).

I have no idea if I should make him good or evil, what his stats should be etc?

Any input would be welcome.

GuardianoftheCitadel.

There is already a thred in the house rules topic covering generic wizards, but i am in a similar situation as you, this is what i use:

Wizard: 65pts

F S D A W C M/W/F
6 4 4 1 2 6 2 4 2

Wargear: Hand weapon, Throwing weapons
Horse (10pts)
Enchanted blade (5pts)

Special rules (some for purchase):
Terror (5pts)
Staff of power (15 pts): this character may expend a single point of will per turn without depleting his will stock
A wizard is never late (25pts): Rather than deploying this model at the start of the game, you may choose for him to enter the board 6" in from your deployment zone for every turn that has passed (If you chose for him to be deployed on turn 4, he may deploy 24" from your deployment zone)
Battle wizard (15pts): this model gains an extra attack and regains a will point for every wound done by it in close combat
Enchanted blade (5pts): This model may re-roll one of its dice in a fight and gains +1 on the roll to wound

Magical powers:
Transfix 4+ 12"
Renew 3+ 6"
Sorcerous blast 5+ 12"
Strengthen will: 3+ 6"

Thanks for that! I never realised it was in the house rules so I apologise for that. I was thinking:

F S D A W C M/W/F
6 4 5 1 3 5 3 6 2

Points: 90-100

Wargear: Enchanted Blade, Throwing weapons

Magical powers:
Transfix 4+ 12"
Renew 3+ 6"
Sorcerous blast 5+ 12"
Strengthen will: 3+ 6"

I was also thinking about adding something like a special rule for his dragon that accompanies him, any ideas?

That's almost like Gandalf, but for half the price. :?

How do you see the effect of the dragon: distraction, offensive, defensive? If it's a distraction, maybe the two together cause terror, or allow a reroll to wound on a 1, or make the enemy reroll a 6 to win the fight.
If it's offensive, maybe if he wins the fight he gets a second attack at S2.
If it's defensive, maybe he can't be trapped because the dragon has the wizard's back.

I'd say that the fact he cannot be trapped is a good idea as he already has his enchanted sword which allows one re-roll to win a fight and plus one to wound.
Sorry about the price! wasn't too sure on what to put with that, recommend a point cost maybe?

He has better fight than Gandalf the Grey, though less courage. His weapon is better than Glamdring, and his spells are about the same though he's missing a couple. He gets throwing daggers and can't be trapped. So 170 points at least, probably more.

Personally I don't think the game needs another uber-wizard (especially one for which there is no record in the story), but a mid-level wizard could be interesting, and would be more likely to be used. Maybe a "battle mage", something like:

F S D A W C M/W/F
5 4 5 2 2 5 2 4 1

Points: 100

Wargear: Sword (hand weapon), Armour, Throwing weapons

Magical powers:
Transfix 4+ 12"
Bladewrath 3+ (self) - per Easterling War Priest (GW PDF: In Sauron's Sinister Service), except: self only. Also increases attacks for this turn by +1

Special Rule:
Dragon Familiar: the dragon watches the Battle Mage's back, therefore he can not be trapped.

That sounds good, I like that. I will save it and use it in the future. :)
