White basecoat can do that to - it's different way of painting :P using thin layers of paint instead

I know but it will take a lot more effort and time and will give basically the same look so it is easier to use black. It will make the face easier but then he could undercoat that in white separately (or if spraying, put a blob of blu-tack on their face to protect it from the black).

Thanks for the information Cyndra, I took the black undercoat aswell, I'm now looking for a good colour for the cloaks, I think I found a nice combination, I'll post some pics if I got time, now it's too dark to see details.. I also started painting my ent, I just gave him the first drybrush, it's not very effective yet, but there will come 3 more brown drybrushes over it so.. we'll see :P

After exams I'll have more time to work on the board and the dwarves/numenor, I'll see wich army I'll paint first, I can't decide :P really like both..

The Treeman is looking good, just remember you don't have to stick to browns for him, mix in some areas of green, dark oranges, and rotting flesh to add texture to the bark. It helps to look at real trees for reference.

The base for the King's Champion... Did you do that yourself, or is it bought from somewhere? If so, link please.

Garmenhord is correct Gaarew, if you'd like I'll put some picture and a little explanation of it here on the site, so maybe you could make your own. I'm writing an article about it for the fan made book of the dwarves anyway, so it'll be nice to hear some reactions about it first ;)

Cool.

I can see how it was done now, seeing as I know it's a DIY job, it was just the colour that threw me, it looked like a resin cast.

Have been working on my Moria board last days, I'm having exams right now sow I'll upload the article later, here are some pics of the board anyway:
Image

the red square you see at the top is for decoration I'll add later, here's a picture of what I'll attach there, it's a dwarven rune:
Image

Image
look from above (the raised area where the red-haired dwarf is standing will have Balin's grave on it, but of course it's not Balin's but just some dead king's ;)

Image

Image
this is the plastic door from the MoM starter kit, I'll be using these doors for my gates, those made in cardboard won't have a gate, unless I really need one and don't have any plastic doors anymore.

Image
Here's my Khazad Guard, I ordered him from Hasslefree Miniatures, they come in packages of 3 but have hammers etc, so I decided to give them all the plastic head of the plastic dwarven warriors with his 2 handed axe holding above his head. So they'll fit in with GW's Khazad Guard.

And finally some progress on my dead orcs for my Legolas diorama which can be found here: http://www.one-ring.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=20862
Image
still have to redo the right one's face, it looks pretty weird right now, I give you that.

hope you like 'em, C&C welcome!

been pretty busy this week, but here's some progress, I gave all the other 'khazad guards' their new axes (one of them wears a satchel, I stole it from a dwarf ranger I had lying around), also converted my troll as you can see, he'll be holding a dwarf warrior once he's finished and some dwarf warriors are converted aswel, hope you like them!

I see you replaced the axe handles with steel rod. That seems like a good idea.

yes I sure did, the weapons they had before were swords and hammers, so I cut of the plastic axes of some plastic dwarf warriors. I switched the axes with the weapons the metal figures had, as you can see on the last picture, the hammer is from the metals. I drilled through the axe (which is very hard to do!) and through the hammers, but they are lager so that's no problem. Then you have to drill the hands and put the rod with the axe head attached in the holes in the hands and glue it. If you use the same axes as me, they'll fit nicely with GW's Khazad Guard. Except the helmet, only one of them wears a helmet which looks like GW's the others have open helmets. You could also use them as normal warriors ofcourse, but I'll be using them for Khazad Guard for now. Anyway, I hope you like them, the models look very great too, I have to give you that. The only disturbing thing I found was the metal model with his axe holding next to him, his hands are as large as his head! But ofcourse you won't notice that from far. I ordered some models from Thormarillion aswell, the will be here very soon, 2 look like khazad guard aswell, and the other two will fit with the iron guard I guess.. I'll get some pictures uploaded once I got them! Also had some 2nd handed models from Holland (which includes some moria stuff) and from ebay, some Khazad guard from GW and also two goblin captains! I'll get some pics of everything once I got something! (:
