Okay,

So GW down in Melbourne, Australia is running Conflict. A 500 point SBG tournament. Now Normally I'd take some thing high Fight or something nasty which suits my playing style. But a friend of mine dared me to take a very interesting list after we had just played the 'Ambush in Ithilien' Scenario.

It' as Follows.

Faramir, Captain of Gondor with Bow
Damrod, Ranger of Ithilien
Frodo Baggins with Sting and Mithril Coat
Samwise Gamgee
Smeagol
1 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Banner
7 Warriors of Mians Tirith with Shield
7 Warriors of Mians Tirith with Shield and Spear
9 Rangers of Gondor
3 Citadel Guards with Spear

A very ahhhh...... Interesting list, it only has 32 models but has 5 heroes, 8 points of might and 11 shots a turn.

So my question to all of you is..... How on earth do I unlock the potential of this list, and what tactics would I need to employ to do well.

You still have 11 bows in your army so you could defend well enough with 11 rangers.

Frodo can also be very nasty especially against ringwraiths. Just put the ring on with frodo and make him charge ringwraiths, only the ringraith can see him so it is a one to one fight. And even frodo has change to kill a ringwraith because they both have only 1 attack.

Though Frodo has only got Fight 3 and will need 6s followed by 4s to wound the wraith even with sting where as the nazgul will only need 5s.

As for the rest of the army, I would say drop the banner as you need as many points' worth as you can to use on troops. Also, I'm not sure about giving frodo sting and mithril as that knocks him up to 100 points' worth for which roughly you could get Boromir, a much better hero. I would drop frodo's equipment, he won't need mithril as he has the ring and he won't need sting as he probably won't be fighting much anyway.

I think his question was that he wants that list and that we give some tactics with it if that's not what he is trying to say it could be changed to make it better.

Spuds4ever he needs to do something with frodo, and if the wraith is in combat with frodo it can't cast transfix on any of his other heroes. It is not made to actually kill him but more to be annoying. And the change that frodo wins with the reroll from banner is still 58% . So that's not very bad for a stupid, fat hobbit

I'm just saying that it's much easier to handle an effective army than a non-effective one, because, to be perfectly honest, I don't think there is lots of potential in that list at the moment. Also, Frodo will probably also not be in range of the banner and the ringwraith can still just compel him out of the way and the ringwraith could just surround himself with orcs so frodo can't actually get into contact.

But instead of arguing, I suggest you play as defensively as you can trying to fight in as little space as you can so your shieldwall dosen't get surrounded. Keep the rangers on the flanks so they can still shoot spear supporting units when combat has come.

Hmmm..... interesting thoughts,

Agree with the fact that I need more bodies on the table. But, I think I'll give the army a couple more practice games to see if I can get anything out of it, before I start changing the list (and at least another game with the my mate that suggested it).

I have played one game with the army did alright got the win but I was rolling pretty good. I found that Smeagol is a little assassin and can definitely kill stuff with a spear behind him. Another trick that I have found is that Heroic combats work well with the army, with 8 points of might I can afford to burn a few. I called 4 during the game, 3 payed off. Theirs something lingering their (like hidden potential but not as good). I don't know.

I'll give it a couple more shots see what happens definitely need to try against a wraith and some Fight value 6 heroes to see if I can deal with them.

Can good take smeagol? Is it the same as gollum or are these house-rules?

Yeah good side has an smeagol version but you can take him if you take frodo in your army.
