Wow Oldman Willow you've got some seriously cool treemen there. How do you clean your trees by the way?

I have to wash them. When they are dry I repair them . I re-glue any of the clump foliage that as worn off and add a little new fine flock to restore the color. The sun causes the color to fade over several years. I am dull coating this batch.I used golden oak minwax to seal them . It is too shinny.

You wash them in soap and water? Or just rise them?

I keep up with it so a rinse is usually enough. Some of the metal ones have been on the shelf for years they might take a little dish soap from time to time. The 27 treemen for the shire scenario are stored in a box. However, I let ten year old's use them so they are in the process of repair. 24 down 3 to go. They are going to get a dull coat and new ground treatment.

The cpu fan put me behind. I repaired/replaced it and cleaned the radiator/heat sink and cleaned up the inside of the case. It booted fine but I copied and backed up every thing just in case. It was simple compared to changing vacuum tubes in a TV or old radio.

Washed varnished and foliage repaired.

When the varnish dries I will re-do the bases.

I am going to work on a tree house for my baby sisters children tomorrow. I will cut out some new hills from the scrap.

I used most of the scrap board for Barbie furniture but I did cut out a few new hills. I need to plan a few more.
I broke my jig saw blade making rubber band guns at my sister house and did not have any more with me.I may recut these at a better angle when I make the rest.
Image
I need to repair this old pink foam hill. It was made the same way as the wood hills but the foam does not ware as well as the wood.
Image
I am going to flock the hills at the same time as I re-flock the tree bases.

I cut out and glued up the watchers pool today. I decided to make it a section for my game table. I use a 1/4 hard board sheet and a 1/2 MDFB sheet so it would match the 3/4 plywood sections of my game table. The table is a 4 by 6 foot box with three 2 by 4 foot sections forming the top. The box is 1/2 a foot deep and is used for additional storage.I use two metal map drawers for the base.
I will use wood filler to form the lake bed. I have some rocks to embed in the resin when I pour the water. I would like some suggestions for making the gate. I plan to make two holly trees for the front as practice for a treeman.
The thumbnail can be enlarged and you can view the album if you like.

I made the first tree too tall. I tried to make it while I was watching the Greatest Tank Battles on TV. I will make it into a willow instead. I will add filler to the pool tonight when I get home. I will finish up the willow and try again.

Image

It might be better to make one from scratch with the plan in mind than to covert it to a willow. I will let gravity take it course and work on it some more later.

I really like your trees epsecially the shot a few post backs with the trees arranged in height.

The pool looks good but I think it needs something more it is just to boring and plain at the moment. Maybe a small island with some rubble in the middle?

Don't laugh too hard it is my first try. I will pick up some cheap tools and a book tomorrow and work on it some more.I need to read some of the articles on the site too.

The willow will look better with a trim. Un-twisting the twine will be a very labor intensive way to make a tree.

The branch arrangement and the overall shape is very nice. Your trunk needs a little work.

The twine is quite effective. Are you going to mirror the technique with your Willow Ent?

The twine has some potential.I want to see how flocking it turns out. I will have to experiment a bit more.I would like to use it for the Willow Ent.

Thanks for the tip! I am going to get some fresh green stuff and work on it a bit at a time like you suggested earlier.

wip The pool needs to dry at least over night before I add flocking and dry completely before I add water.

I did a little more on the tree.
