Hey i know i posted this in the WoTR forum but i then realized that this would be a better place to do it! I also changed the list around to bring in some allies.
I have now set to the task of creating an entirely themed list that i can paint have it look great on the table, and still be quite competitive in tournaments as well as friendly play. Because this is a themed list i am restricted on some of the units i can tank, so i'm not blending Aragorn and Arathorn as the latter was killed when Aragorn was 2. I suppose the main theme is a personal army of Aragorn, perhaps before the true WoTR began or after he was crowned high king and returned to Arnor.
First a 1,000 pt list to be expanded upon, a huge downside is that it cost $180 for 4 companies of Warriors.
Aragorn - 200pts.
Rangers of Arnor - 60pts. -2x Companies
Rangers of Arnor - 60pts. -2x Companies
Warriors of Arnor - 100pts. -4x Companies
Warriors of Arnor - 100pts. -4x Companies
The Grey Company -245pts. -3x Companies -Banner of the King
So this is the core of my force coming in at 765pts, i know its on the smaller side, only having 15 companies, and a little short on might. I'm allying in elves because of the history between Arnor and the Elves. I think some Galadhrim knights would do wonders with this list more mobility as well as terror causing and a shattering charge in someone's flank.
So i think to start with it will have to be Elladan and Elrohir, plus 3x Companies of Galadhrim Knights which would total the list for 985pts. A little wiggle room.
Elladan, Elrohir - 70pts.
Galadhrim Knights - 150pts. -3x Companies

Hi thelordcal,
Before the WOTR, AFAIK the area where Arnor once was is essentially independent settlements with the tribe of the Dunedain keeping the noble bloodlines alive. So it could actually be quite a cool army - 'Men of Middle Earth' (however you choose to represent these visually), Rangers and Elves. Post WOTR, I'd imagine Elessar had to either import a warrior core from Gondor or reestablish local elites - the better equipped units from any locals he resumed control over. That is not to say they wouldn't have been equipped like the warriors of Arnor figs, that GW invented the style for, but they would not necessarily be equipped that way either. I tend to model my own 4th Age forces as MT plus various historical figs to represent the men of Eriador etc.
In terms of the list: 1. Warriors are always good. 2. Rangers make sense themewise and are fairly good - though I always struggle to ever like bow in this game. 3. Aragorn is a very good hero for the Gondor list, a free action a turn and gives the comparatively weak hitting base troops a good boost - which can set up other things. 4. Amongst the other things, I'd consider Gimli + Aragorn to be not too many points spent on heroes for this level. The combo makes heaps of sense for post-WOTR and could give you real punch. 5. Not least if you drop those over-priced Elven cav and take their points in MT Knights instead. That is five coy w shields or six without. 6. I've tried to like the Grey coy, I really have (I even painted a White bodyguard for Faramir using their statline. However, I think they just aren't worth their cost vs their alternatives. 7. The Axemen of Lossarnach statline could be quite a cool Huscarl/Household troops heavy inf unit to provide another alternative punchy unit to the list. That would combo well with Rampage and Anduril. 8. The twins are good value and make sense for this list. However, I think they really shine with someone to add more might to them.
Cheers

I am considering two options for rounding out my 1k list. Allying in Gimli and adding in two more companies of Rangers. OR, Thranduil and 2 companies of Mirkwood Sentinels. That is a hard decision.
Epic Rampage plus Anduril will most certainly carve devastation into any enemy formation. This is also a likely ally because no matter where i place my army Gimli could have easily fought alongside Aragorn. He did spend some time with the dwarves before the War of the Ring.
Second, having some magic, nature's wrath anyone, or epic shot, plus two companies that cause terror, i'm mainly adding them for fluffy reasons and i have the models. This alliance is more likely considering the relationship.
Decisions decisions, what does everyone else think?
