Good point, but I must admit that the figure in real life looks a bit more dark... The thing is, I still haven't seen it myself in daylight (only under a daylight bulb...)
In the upcoming weekend I will have my first chance to see it in 'normal' daylight, so I hope it still looks as I think it looks, lol.
Tonight I will finish him (didn't come to hobby'ing yesterday...). Next sunday I'll be able to look at him in real daylight, and if the foilage is added by then and the base is completed, I will have a better idea of the whole figure and where I will have to add a little more darkness (if needed... but usually I'm fed up with it once based etc, lol).

what did you do with the merry and Pippin models that came in the set?

Merry and Pippin are still somewhere in the drawer.. (I hope)...
But... I've had several of those Merry's and Pippins over the past years (picked up several spare ones on ebay in the early days) and used them in a diorama somewhere (once in Edoras where Pip was looking into the palantir, that was my very first diorama ever! and another set of these two hobbits was used in my 'In the house of Tom Bombadil'-diorama. Reminds me that I still haven't fixed my own gallery here...)

I won't make an article of this one (Treebeard)... but I'll probably add pictures of him aswell in an article I'm planning, an article that will cover all the ents, but I will (or rather plan to...) make the actual guide on some of Majestic Bear's Ents... (simply because I love them more then GW's ents, although their plastic one is a great sculpt...).

I really like the colours; a lot more natural and woody than the high contrast gw style.

Sounds like the race is on to do an Entmoot then Bart? I too like the Beechbone plastic Ent which I've altered ever so slightly to make it more like the movie version. You've done well to get my other Ents as I've recently considered binning the webstore for a number of reasons. My Ents all have placid poses because when I made the first one, it was with an Entmoot diorama in mind. Won't be using any of those dodgy GW metal ones though.

I agree with Oldman Willow- perhaps you two could have a friendly competition like the Bag End build-off thread. :D

Hehe, well, I'm planning to sculpt (at least an attempt to...) the Fir-ent (decipher used him as Skinbark), the Oak-ent and one of my favs: the "dwarfish" Ash-ent. If that turns out well, I would like to try a chestwood-ent aswell (don't think ther's any picture-reference for that one so I'll need my imagination and a little more experience...).
But I do hope you will beat me to it much sooner then I can finish the first one, lol. That will save me a lot of cursing and swearing, haha!

For "Skinbark", the extended dvd's have some really interesting pics, aswell as for other ents. Too bad I couldn't find this one between the 7 big pictures of the NLC/Weta-designs of other ents (I know you know of which pics I speak ;) ). Oak and Ash are in those pictures though, so that could be a little easier... (but still... heh).

Anyway, lots of work to do! And still have to paint 5 other ents I already have ready to greenstuff on my desk! Woohoow! :)

Here's a daylight picture of Treebeard as he is now... Still considering some minor changes though...
The foilage is not my initial idea (which didn't work well), but I'm pleased with the result as it is...
Also Pip and Merry need to get (removably) attached there...

And this is (supposed) to come soon under my brush... An Entmoot on the magnetron...

Forget the black, Bart!

This is the movie-Ent, and nothing less. (This is also one of those moments that I regret not being a painter but a builder... )

Now, get your ash over here to throw some rocks at my Orthanc! To war!

Excellent. This is just the motivation I need to get my own Fir and Ash Ents finished. A very nice Treebeard there Bart. It beats mine hands down. The extra vegetation works a treat.

I did not realize that a day light photo could make that much difference in the color. It looks totally different. The foliage looks very good.I have used the "real tree" style foliage in railroad layouts. For me it is to fragile for wargames. Nothing looks better.

I was thinking more of a community painting or conversion tread.

I could use something to get past the winter time I'm' to old blues my self. This could do the trick.

I am sorry to hear that. I hope I have time left to pick up another ent.

The final product looks brilliant, the foliage and the base finish it off nicely. All it's missing now are two little mischevious 'orcs'. Great work Bart!

Bart, its great to see you back painting minis again. Those ents, all together, will look stunning after painted. Keep up with the good work.

Just a note, the plastic ent looks a bit unbalanced towards the back. Might just be the pic, but give it a look before you start.

Really need to force myself to make some time and pick my brushes again. :s

Looking forward to seeing how you tackle these guys Bart! I just finished up one of Dave's Birch Ents and posted him to my blog, so I'm sure I'll steal a tip or two from your masterful skills to help me with my Willow and Linden Ents. :D

Must be the angle of the ent in the photo... From some angles it looks totally right, from other corners, it's indeed as if he is... well.. parading like a wannabe-topmodel on a catwalk...
I had some difficulties assembling him and had to struggle through some swearing, I guess he nearly ended up with a smack against the wall... all because I was too lazy to go find some blue-tac so I directly glued him, and for once, I used the plastic-glue which kinda melts the parts together instead of superglue...
His legs started to annoy me and once done, I couldn't separate the parts anymore without damaging to much... Will try to find a solution for that (maybe a rock under his foot or something... or just never look from the weird angle.. heh...

Thanks :)
I already have some ideas for the fine hanging branches of the willow-ent, cause I probably won't use the ones that came with the ent (sorry Dave..)...
Some time ago I saw a topic here of someone (Old Man Willow? or Tom Bombadillo? or ???) who made the Old man willow-tree using fine long sausages of greenstuff where foliage was glued on. It look fantastic! Sadly enough I can't find the topic of picture back, but I would love to see it once again. (anyone else remembers? please help!)

Not a problem. That was always hard for me to come up with something that worked commercially. Soft metal fronds would have been too fragile, and I couldn't find anything plastic. Your way will be more robust.

Not much happened this week, but at least they are all ready to start painting!
2 of them are meanwhile undercoated black, and just now I've started the first steps of the wonderfull Majestic Bear Birch Ent where I choose for a Khemri Brown undercoat... (first time I did such a big area with the foundation paints, and strangly enough the smell of those paints reminds me to painting my livingroom with Levis paints...)
