simmuskhan, how do you paint your dwarven armor, the silver?

I have been researching a lot about this, because my elves have the same elven armor color as your guys do, and I'm working on trying to get the armor look as good as possible.

thanks

My last year's april and may posts have a nice sequence of events, and soon I'll have another one up here.
It's pretty basic, though time consuming!
1. Undercoat black.
2. Boltgun on top (light brush over chainmail, paint fully on plates), don't worry too much about getting paint in the gaps because then...
3. Badab black wash all over the chainmail and in all the gaps of plates and around joins of helmets and weapons.
4a. Next, if I'm doing a special figure I re-apply boltgun metal more carefully, leaving the darkened bits from the wash, otherwise I just go to the next step.
4b. Chainmail on it all, being careful not to go in the darkened areas.
5. Mithril on the edges.
Then sometimes I do another wash, but just in the areas that are supposed to be darkened, particularly if I've messed things up too much.

It sounds like a lot of work, but the boltgun and first wash are pretty quick really, and you don't have to do the mithril layer really (though it does look particularly good on weapon edges).
I use a flat brush for the chainmail layers (held so that the brush is parallel to the chainmail to minimise bits going in between the links) and a pointy brush for the plate layers (for more accuracy).

Hope that helps! I'm certainly no expert, I'm sure there are much better ways to do it, but I tend to batch paint, so don't want to muck around mixing up paints and stuff =)

Sorry for the long time between posts, but have had lots to do over the weekend! Have finished the first lot of highlights, here are the kings again for comparison.

More detail on the blog, as always, including group shots, what I'll be doing next, the paints that I used and a new design for the page =)

Very good! The colours really make the dwarf :) Really, the purple/blue combined with gold/silver is a great choice. Looks good in close-ups and also from a distance.

I'm really curious: do you have that many empty used paint pots, or do you flip them open with the dwarves still attached to the lids?!?

I really like the texture you've created there, especially on the beards. The blue looks very nice. Good job!

Huzzah! Finished them off today!

Here are the Kings for comparison:

Image

Pics of them all on the blog: http://simbattleboard.blogspot.com/2011/01/lord-of-rings-dwarf-army-finished.html

And, of course, I had to put them all out on the battle board to see my army grow in size and power!

Thank you all for watching and commenting, it's amazing how much easier it is to slog through when you feel like other people are interested, so THANKS!!!

PS. Valpas, I have quite a few empty pots, but mostly they're just the colours I'm not needing for the dwarves, all my greens and goblin type colours. I really don't use a huge colour palette for these, so have plenty of pots to stand them on. (I have lots of empty Codex Grey, Fortress Grey, White and Black pots too, since all of my bases use those colours.)
