Charlie, I admire your work on those carefully packed boxes. I can't wait till I can get properly cracked on with some of my ideas.

As for King Thranduils cave, bear with me as I'm going from memory. The entrance is quiet concealed and there is a bridge leading up to it...I believe.
You can apparently miss it, such is the concealment, but that would need to be 'played with' to work for a model. The entrance was an archway with sentries leading to a courtyard ?
From there a path led to the grand hall in the cave with a side path leading off to the storerooms and the prison area.

So I see lots of twisting trees at the entrance that meld their way to form an arch for the entrance that would open up to a clearing with the cave beyond. The cave would again have various quantities of foliage to disguise it, though this would be above the arch of the cave.
I'm thinking at ' forest floor ' level you would see mainly trees and make out the entrance. Once you are above the canopy you could see into the courtyard. Obviously you couldn't hide the entrance as the story depicts, but you could give the impression of concealment.
I would also look at adding one or two flets in the outlying trees as sentry posts. That would add some spice to the gaming as well as some dramatic effect.
How this would all work for your gaming I'm not sure but your expertice would come in there to make it work.

Some ideas for you anyway :)

Great find on the watercolour. I had a look around and couldn't find anything suitable.
I'm sure you will find the challenge fulfilling !!!

I needed to bring in my plants for the winter. I did not realize I had so many more now that I retired. So I had to make a new place to paint.I made it from a old TV cabinet a tenant abandoned. I will add a better light and a small shelf or two. I think, I may have to rebuild one of the drawers it was so poorly made it may not hold all of the unpainted lead.

Yes it is. I have some drawer pulls around some where. I might have to make a pull out like on a computer desks. I want to make it easier to find my paint. I am going to make a few more shelf's for the GW size paint bottles.I do not like keeping the paint in the shoe boxes.
The main thing is to cut down on some of the clutter.

Or to save too much messing, have a hinged shelf that folds up inside and is held on a couple of catches to stop it falling out. A couple of detachable legs will provide the work area support, when the shelf is lowered.
The advantage being it will all fold neatly away, plus giving you the drawers for storage.

I took your advice. The hinge was the way to go. I will run to the hardware store and pick up some short wood screws and that part will be done.
Thanks for the tip.

A lot better light. I made a little more progress. I have almost painted all of my back drop sections. Time to start painting orc and goblin villagers.

Great work, it would really add a 3Dish effect to a board. And well done on the paint station/cupboard.
Keep it up.

Very cool. Though I might see some trouble on playing on such terrain, still would love to try that :D

No it is much easier than you think. All you have to do is come up with the right scenario.

I do not have room to work on it until I finish up the bark. I had to bring in the plants for the winter. I did not realize I had so many more now that I retired. They are taking up some of my work area. I will build a hot house next spring. I am going to make a larger vegetable garden. As for Helms Deep I have cast a huge number of blocks but I don't have a heated space to glue them up. Winter does not last long here though.
