Yep, Gondor always comes first for me. I'll see if I can make a quick mould out of that little ruined wall, would be easy enough to churn out. Sorry I haven't got any mini's yet. With still being ill over 3 weeks, throwing up almost every day & stuff I've kind of not been in the mood to do much. As well as losing my password for my account, but a thanks to MacGothmog for helping me retreive it. I doubt I'll have much time to paint, because I have exams this coming week. So the time has come to revise

What I've been up to recently is sorting out my moulds, which take up a great chunk of my hobby time. I got myself i good mould of the small ruined wall I made. The pictures below are actually from one of the casts, so it's worth rather well I think. Tell me what you think anyways.

This is it just come out of the cast, normaly what I do is shove them in the oven on a low temp for a while so they dry out. For as you know, plaster is pretty slow on drying.

That's it painted up and based.

For something this scale, it's not really heavy. I do have resin, but it is terribly expensive. It's very easy to move about, but the problem with plaster is if you drop it on a hard surface - it's gone.

I had the though, I can easily sell these actually. It's easy to produce, and some of the things for example they sell on ebay are just so simple. For example I found a few rocks on a small base at 4 quid sold really well.
So here are my question;

Should it be based & painted, or should it be just the cast when sold?
Would resin be more popular? (it would be quite a bit more expensive, would you be prepair to spend more)
What other models would people be interested in buying? So suggestions would be great on what you want.

Great work again Drum, they look a lot better painted.
Are you selling them unpainted then? I really want to get ebay now but my dad won't let me.
What are you planning next?

For the next steps I'm going to do a few other different moulds. I was wondering if there is anything in particular people want? For example; Osgiliath ruins, or some sort of building.

I like some simple ruines, not with a specific theme.
But perhaps you could do a couple of different themes..

Unpainted is the way to go. People usually prefer painting stuff like this themselves, and will be more incited to buy a cast when they can personalize it to the extent that they wish. Great job by the way (:

I would use hydrostone instead of normal plaster. It is almost as strong as resin and no where near as expensive.

Thanks for the comments. So the end result is a bit of both. I've put two test ones on ebay. One painted, based and finished - and the other just plain. We'll see how they go. For pricing I really don't know, so I just went for something similar to some other products on ebay.

I'm working on doing another ruin, which will be larger - not just a small wall section. We'll see how it turns out.

@Willow; Tell me more about this stuff, it sounds interesting & just as good as resin. The cheaper side is always an up too.

The important thing is that all of the Gypsum Cements are at least twice as hard as plaster. If you drop it will chip rather than be crushed to dust. So you will not have as much trouble with shipping or with paint wearing off.
I have a local supplier. Shipping would be prohibitive. Hdro-stone is a brand name ask locally for Gypsum Cement.

@Willow; hmm interesting, I've had a look around about this. I found a UK shop online, but the postage is terribly expensive. I'll see if I can find a local dealer. Not sure which plaster I'll use yet.

I've been busy building some little ruins.. this is what I've come up with so far. This isn't glued together yet, just one or two piece to actualy keep it up. Looks a bit tatty at the moment, but once it's glued together + painted it'll make a world of a difference. Is this what you lookings for in ruins? I can make a mould of this easily enough.

That exactly what i would look for, but may i suggest a balsa wood 2nd floor to add some more variety for gaming?

good idea! That'll be an add-on after I've done the mould. For the small ruins, no bids yet - but i only put it on yesterday i suppose. I'm not sure about pricing either, lets hope for the best.

oh it's already finished I'm afraid. Anyway here is what the mouls looks like at the moment. It's 2 moulds because there are the undercuts in the window. Not much progress untill I get these moulds done, and I'll need to make a reverse mould so that it keeps it's shape. Hopefully this will turn out well like the small ruined wall section. The dips in the section picture are where the arches are, just to give you a bit of direction. Hope it turns out well!

Looking forward to the result. u make me kinda in the mood to make some terrain to.. To bad i am to busy with school work .
