you may want some more variety in the coloring of the spiders.

I painted them a uniform base color so that they would look like a unit.

I have been trying to come up with some detail colors that will look good on all of them.

I like The Buckland Brewer's suggestion of the Mexican Redknee. I like the red font legs and the yellow back legs in the photo Raukov posted. I like the Idea of black and blue, and black and yellow.

My inclination is to paint 12 Rednknee and 12 something else. 4 of the little ones look like tarantulas I may get some more of those if they are not out of production.
I want to paint the large spider on the base with Sauroman Black with red details.

Thanks for the help.

I agree about keeping them uniform. It really makes a difference I think. It's one thing if you're just trying to show off some painting schemes or skill, but when you have a bunch of Spiders on the table as a single Formation they really should be the same species in my opinion.

I'm sticking with the GW spiders simply for the hope that I may compete again some day (really…they will bring more tournaments back in the US…really….), but I go thru the blisters and divide the two species into separate Formations. For one of them I'm using a type of jumping spider that's mostly black/dark gray with some green highlights as my "guide" for the ones that look like that. This site has some cool references (don't click if you're spider squeamish) http://villageofjoy.com/jumping-spider-goes-to-a-photo-session-15-pictures/ .

Your custom trays rock (no pun intended). For a cave-based theme those are awesome. My Movement Trays for these are being made up with "fallen trees" and rocky outcrops with the idea of being in the dark depths of Mirkwood with entrances to caverns. I only have enough spiders for two Companies of each species so far and for my initial Formation I only have one movement tray far enough along that I've base-coated it. I haven't decided on a theme yet for the second species.

I like that idea too.

What do you think about spider web?

I can not say I disagree, I hope the movement trays will unify the look. I chose the cave trays because I want to unify the unit of spiders and the bats. The species thing is really going to matter when I start the bats.

I don't know if you have access to it, but color-guard cloth patches - like you toss in with the laundry - look pretty good to me. You might also try some of the stringy stuff you can findin costume shops or when the stores are ramping up for Halloween.

I don't live any where near enough to a GW store for it to matter, but GW insist that you use there models in all of there Official tournaments.

I have the official models as well but I like others better. You should paint and collect what you like.
