Now if I could only paint that well.

The road worked out well. I will put a base coat on it this afternoon.
I left the tree as a separate part so that I can continue to work on it.

ukfreddybear My Brother in Ohio purchased two of your tree figures for me as a gift they are very nice indeed.

Now I have to decide how to go about it. The tree is mainly going to be a playing piece. It has to be "tuff enough" to stand up to at least a little maltreatment. I do not think Real tree brand armatures will survive dusting much less game play. The clump foliage looks good but I use very little on trees that are going to leave the game room. That leaves Lichen - reindeer Moss or the poly fiber. I may need to twist some more wire armature and paint the honeysuckle root for the poly fiber to work well. I need to collect and treat some more lichen.

Image

I had some small parts left. I really need to pick some more before I glue any thing.

Image

I like the light green best but I do not have any where near enough.
please make suggestions.

I would agree that the lighter green looks best. I think that is primarily due to the variations in the leaves. If you were to mix some of lighter green and brown lichen in with the darke lichen I think it would look just as good and you would have enough of it. But the foliage still needs to look as if it all came from the same tree so I wouldn't use as much variation as there is on the lighter one. I hope that helps.

I am going to pick some fresh lichen at my brothers property today. I will dye it when I treat it with glycerin. Some fresh large pieces will be helpful. I should be able to pick up some large pieces of pine bark too.

Thanks your comments are always helpful :)

I picked some nice large pieces. It is washed and ready to treat.
Link for details:

The Railroad shop was out of what I need to finish. So I will have to wait on mail order. Tim is going to stop by when he gets off work to make some ACW 15mm roads but I may make some progress on some LOTR as well.

I found the link was not working so I found it again . It is still the same?

I'm glad you like them. But from the evidence of tree sculpting I have seen in this thread you're more than capable of making your own Ents I reckon! :)

I have converted some but I have not started one from scratch.

Thanks for the confidence.

I have added some roses and 6mm summer grass to the hobbit hole. I added the first new version window. I have worked hard to get the gallery glass just right to discover you can't see it if the model is on the table. I will finish the ground work around the front window and leave it alone.

Image

I worked on some window shutters and furniture for the interior details. The table is still too large but it will work fine for the hobbit Inn. I finally got the hang of making the small bottles and books as well. I found some small beads that will make beer bottles.

I started treating the lichen it is as boring and messy as I remembered.

You've done an incredible job on the hobbit hole. The addition of the flowers and grass makes it look very realistic. The details for the interior also looks very good. The bottle made from the bead look very good, can it stand up straight? I'm looking forwards to seeing how this piece turns out when it's done.

No, not very well. However, I made a serving tray from circle of thin wood. I am going to use a small nail punch to make an indention and glue it down. I have to small glass beads that look like brandy glasses that I will add to the tray.
The extra small hobbit furniture has been a challenge. It is too large or it will not stand on it's on.

Thanks

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for the Hobbit Inn?

I have to finish up some final details, repair some paint faults and seal the stone work.

Image

I have to put some more flowers and grass around the window but I have to wait until the gallery glass is no longer sticky.
Image

I am going to hang the door but I decided it was not worth the effort to make it open and close. There is a real reason doors are not round.

Image

I am working on furniture for the Inn.It will be much easier to build around the furniture than to try to make it fit. I am going to cast this after noon. I need some more parts for the Inn, Mill and foot bridge. I am going to use the road castings for the winding road to Goblin town. They will work for Moria as well. The photo is of some of the pine bark I picked up at my brothers property. I will combine it with cast rock faces for back drops for mountains and caves. I will use the road castings for all kinds of winding passages.

I have had a blast working on the LOTR stuff. I am really tired of the normal Historical games. I really do not want to paint another Stalingrad ruin. It is nice to be enthusiastic about something for a change.

I use the paint on latex rubber. It is much more cost effective for this kind of stuff. You still have to build a box for a "back up" mold the latex needs support is stretches. I can give as detailed instructions as need be feel free to pm.

Processing the fresh lichen has been a chore. I need a much larger container so that I can work on more at one time.

Image

Using fresh lichen is a joy. I have run out of Hobby tac. I have been experimenting with DD and Mage Knight trees. I want to make sure I have the technique down before I commit to glue on the large model.
