Been thinking more about the stats to use for Etako Ironfist.

Since he's the Balin model I was thinking to use Balin's stats modified to fit his story/theme (blog April 21st). To that end I've removed a point of will and the ranged capacity, but added a wound. No throwing axes might be a bad idea, but it's the story that counts =)

For the Ironfist Gauntlet, instead of 20 points for Durin's Axe (+1 to wound, re-roll to determine fight winner - portable banner effect ftw), I was thinking something kinda fun.

Ironfist Gauntlet (20 points): Capable of striking a tremendous blow, in melee combat, rather than two attacks, striking with axe and fist, Etako can put all his strength into a single mighty blow with the Gauntlet. A melee target is affected as per Sorcerous Blast.

Expensive for not really much killing power, not as deadly as Durin's Axe, but fun =)

The shields look awesome, in my opinion. However, the 5th one along looks a bit like a smiley face

I'd like to comment on the rules for Etako, but I'm not 100% on SBG rulings, so not sure exactly what sorcerous blast does. Does the Ironfist count as a second hand weapon? I think that, if Sorcerous Blast is weaker than Durin's Axe, then the cost is fine, but if it's as strong, he'd need to be more expensive as, IMO, a wound is more useful than Will and the Shoot value was moot anyway as he has no ranged weapons

Good work and fast too. The shields look good. The bases match your table I like the lava too.

Sat down today and painted up Etako Ironfist.
I'm really happy with the result, went super slowly and used a tiny brush to try and really get all the detail and neat, clean edges. I just wish the photo showed it better!

I think the rules for Etako are very thought out.
I have just read the battle report with the mumakil on your blog. Sounds very hard to kill one. Keep up the good work.

I have a suggestion to the ironfist rule. If you strike with the ironfist you get 1 plus strength. Though i like the other ironfist rule but it is a little much points for not so much power.

I was thinking the Ironfist may actually be overpowered-after all, you could potentially wreck a spear or pikewall with a couple of average rolls, and those two formations are some of the Dwarves' big weaknesses in CC.

Hashut's Blessing - yup, in the process of the Khazad Guard at the moment, though not to the same standard as Etako, they all six need to be finished fairly quickly for a game coming up!

Queen Beruthiel and Shadowmaster26 - I really value input on this one!
I figured that because it was in close combat only I'll ever only really hit the guy in front of Etako and knock him into the guy behind. Not sure how that's really different to using a throwing axe on the guy in front then attacking the guy behind him, except that with the throwing axe option I would then get two attacks at strength 4 on the guy behind instead of one at 3.

The only time the fist attack would be better is if there were a whole line of guys one after the other, but in that case Balin would still be more likely to kill because the front guy would be trapped in that case, causing double wound rolls (each with his +1). Balin is just a killing machine with Durin's axe! I mean, he gets his throwing axe, then he gets three rolls to see who wins a fight, followed by two attacks, each with a +1 to wound!

I agree that if the fist had multiple attacks you could knock a big hole in a wall, but with just the one attack I'm not sure, unless I'm missing something obvious (highly likely!).

After typing up the rules, my initial thought was that I was wasting points on something just to be able to write in the battle report that a guy went flying through the air while gimping the awesome combat skills of just using Balin, to the point where I thought I might just use Balin's rules anyway.

Would love suggestions!

Veyr nice. They stand out a little, having less purple and more silver, but not too much that they are immediately stealing ALL of the attention, more drawing it towards them and Bali... I mean Etako

I particularly like the ones that have silver on the "inside" of the helmets and the bronze/copper look on the trim

The fist doesn't even have to kill to make an impact, it just has to knock a bunch of guys down. The main CC weakness of Dwarves is no spears. If you can knock a spear/pikewall down, then you can absolutely slaughter them in melee with Khazad and Iron Guard. The no throwing axe isn't to much of a price to pay anyway, it's worth 5 points, and you get a auto-Sorcerous Blast (Gandalf the Grey needs a 5+!) if you win the fight. Plus you have an extra wound and with D8, that is worth a lot. It would help a bit if you dropped the wounds to 2 and brought the fate to 2.

Your Khazad Guard look really well painted I must say. You've really done a good job!
