Yeah, I don't think I'd be too eager to try it either. I'd probably wind up with GW's suggestion of murdering a teddy bear. :o

The update looks like some truly magnificent work, my friend! :yay:

I have made some progress. I spacked the walls. I cut out window and door frames. I will have to go to the craft store too get thinner balsa wood for the base boards. The stuff I have is to thick to bend around the curve.
Kevin sent me a U-tube link with a good idea for windows. I will have to stop by a hardware store as well.

I have some fur I got at the fabric store. Teddy is safe for now. :-D

I used the flagstone mold. I used one of the molds to make some of the roofs in some of the huts and out houses I am working on. I have some fur ready to paint. May try later.
Thanks

Oh :?

I have to purchase some balsa strips for the wood work for the hobbit house so I was finishing up some other buildings. I was trying to come up with ideas on a watermill. Would Hobbits use a wind mill?

Image
I am going to use the water bowl for Smeagol's cave. I think it might make a nice rocky mill pond.
I am going to try a hobbit hole mill as well.
Let me know what you think.

A little further along on the cave pool
The water is not dry yet.

please comment on the Eye. I should paint some detail on the Back? How should I go about this?

I have begun detailing some of the out buildings. I have added another level to the cave pond. I am going to make a water wheel and a wind mill.

Thank you. That is high phrase considering the quality of your work.

The stone work on the mill is plastic card. I would of used cast plaster block but I did not think far enough ahead when I cut the form from scrap left over from a door frame.
The roofs of the mill and out houses are cast plaster.

If it's no more complicated than a water mill, sure. Myself, I always pictured Ted Sandyman's mill as being wind powered, but I may be mistaken.

I think I am going to have make a much bigger Hobbit hole if I am going to use it for an Inn. I could scratch build some smaller furniture.

Image

I am going to finish working on the wood work when I sit down with it to night. I am going to install the windows on at least a few pieces.

Image

I have major filling to do on this piece as well. I will spackel it up when I install the window frame.

Image

The old goblin will go-into goblin town. I just don't think hobbits have goblin slaves.
I would like some criticism be for I go further. I don't want some one to give me a good idea after it is too late

New Element cause conceptual change.

I decided to make the fire place lighted so I had to made a unplanned revision. I always intended to add a walk way and a small wall to the base. However, the thicker base may have caused the wall to be too tall. I wanted the figures to be able to stand on the stair way so it will have to be much longer too. This is not what I intended . I am not sure what to do.

Image

You should be able to see the tea candle. I am going to cast a fire place later. You can see I worked out the windows. The gallery glass tip was a good one. Thanks Kevin.

Image

The small trees might work . I will probably have to add a small fence so the poor hobbit won't walk off a cliff. I might go ahead and add the road too.

Please let me know what you think. :?

I could not wait for it to dry to finish the filler. I have to make the hearth floor and some very small fire place tools.

I am glad I made the change. I could still use some suggestions for what to do with the wall.

That's not an actual, burning tea candle, is it?

Run for your lives!

Yes it is a burning tea candle- the batteries last rather a long time. :)

I am still working through the concept change in my mind. I want a little bit better idea before I start gluing. I have worked on the door but I may have to make some kind of hinge.

It is a little easier to see the tea candle in this photo.

Image

The front porch I need to think about a little longer. I have to make it large enough for the figures to stand on but not too large. The solution may bee to cast some more bricks and use single courses instead of double courses.
In the first photo you can see I use a double course stone wall. I think it made the stairs too wide. I changed to a single course of stone in the second photo. Even though I did not have enough blocks ready. I think it will look better.

Image

I can not decide which looks the best. The tall wall or the sloped hill. It really is a matter of opinion and the difference is small. Let me know if you have a preference.
This is hard to see because I put the clump foliage there.

Image

I am going to put flowers and ivy about. I am not going to glue any thing down to some time next week so please let me know what you think.

Wonderfull work.
I prefere the wall version above the sloped hill.
but that is like you said a matter of opinion.

your work is really inspiring, it is very interesting to see how someone makes everything out of wood and plaster.(I once tried it myself and it was big challenge)

keep us updated 8)
