HEY everyone I am asking you to talk my brother
(younger at the age of 12) Into WOTR. Give your experiences why you started and anything else you can think of to help me convince him that WOTR is fun.

I see wargaming as a kinda hit or miss thing. It really struck a chord with me when me and my brother played the 'Balin's Tomb' scenario. We were really into it, really felt the battle well. Some people just see it as a game of fancy chess. So..... I got nothing.

Actually, Freddy has a point - perhaps he feels intimidated by the massive amount of minis in WOTR. Try to introduce hi to the SBG first, and make your way up. He'll soon be persuaded....

Try buying models that'll appeal to a new-comer. Elves generally catch people's attention, so get some of them. Also, I find that any friends I try to introduce SBG to love the trolls.

Another important thing would be to make sure he wins some of his games, the more the better. He's not going to want to play again if he loses all of his first few games.

Well... i have tried to do this with my younger sister...

So... try to show him the cool minis ( and let him see the movies/ read the book i he not already have done that)... Oh and always show him you finished work! A few stunning models should do it

I think what really got me into it was after I got a few boxed sets of Isengard was......how AWESOME it looks to have quiet a few models painted and set up ready to play.

This is the weird thing, HE LIKES PAINTING,,,,,MY FIGURES!!! I mean he has literally painted 1/4 of my figures! I am trying to get him into the gaming part of it, He as seen the movies and trying to make him read a book (No matter how good it is) is like making a fish live on dry land.

Well I would set up all your figs out at once and then it will click.......

For me its the other way around, I was the little brother and thats what click for me, so it might click for him...

I did have the same problem with my little brother about 3 years ago, but it was just a case of giving him Minis to paint, for instance, i let him have control of all the Mordor elements of the army (all the orcs, captains, you know...) and then i just let him hand pick figures out of my collection to paint, he's not exactly brilliant so i let him paint dwarves seeing as i have no interest in them.

Another thing is, if you have any other friends playing the game, invite them over to your house or meet somewhere for a game, but let you brother watch, he will soon realise what he is missing, then just leave him the rulebook to look at when he's by himself, and before you know it, you should have a regular gaming partner!

By the way, carrying on from UKFB's and Burning Mithril's suggestion, if you can play SBG then i would definatley reccomend introducing that to him first, so you can start with small skirmishes and slowly increases the points, then when you think he is ready, ask him if he would like to take the jump up to WOTR.
