Sorry for the double post guys, but I just finished up basing my Morannon Orc Commanders and thought I'd post pictures here. Originally the Shaman had a lava base and although it looked nice, it just clashed a little too much with the bases of my average orcs. I used Gale Force 9's Dead/Winter Grass upon the recommendation of Viruk. It looks great IMO and works really well with the Mordor bases, so many thanks to Viruk. 8)

Just need to go over some areas with Chaos Black and they will be ready for painting! :)

Great job Josh! I like the dead feel of them. Can't wait to see what you do with them painting-wise!

Thanks Josh! :)

So, I painted the skin on my Morannon Orc Captain. It's not the greatest as I had only very small amounts of the two main color's I used, Catachan Green and Bleached Bone. I'm still fairly pleased with the face however. :)

Sorry for the poor quality of my pictures, it's an overcast day here and the lighting was bad. However, I wanted to post these before I started my studies today. Hope you guys like him so far. :)

Looks good so far, though I'll be looking forward to brighter pictures :)

What's this? Another update? Why, yes indeed it is my second update in one day. :D

I finished work on the captain's armour this afternoon. It's certainly not my best work, but I think it's too terrible either. It needs another wash or two to darken it and blend it all together a little more.

I've not really done much painting recently, so it's nice to get back in the swing of things. C&C welcome. :)

It looks great to me....only criticism is the highlights are a little messy on the helmet, especially the top. But overall a solid solid paint job so far. :yay: The highlighting seems excellent, especially on the breastplate. Are you going to add any rust?

Thanks, Josh! Yeah, I think I'll fix up the highlights later today, they are quite messy. Thanks again for the comment. :)

When I saw the first picture I thought, 'nice base, though you can't really see the painting, it all looks black!'

I like the armour, with the highlights smoothed out it will be great.

Hey guys, thanks again for the comments! I've done some more work on the captain today, namely painting the red and black cloth. How's it look?

Looks good but I'd suggest adding another highlight or two, adding Elf Flesh to your current red. 8)

Anduril beat me to it, but he's right I think. A few highlights would make it really stand out.

I think the red looks just right, they are supposed to be filthy orcses so you don't want it to look too bright.

I think the red looks just fine. It shouldn't be too bright, he is an orc after all. :)

Another layer or two won't make him to bright (unless he'll paint it over existing one ;) ) but will give model more depth and contrast.

Dunno, maybe add more gradients to the shadowing and a very slight highlight (one layer) or a dusty highlight. I think it looks fine as is, truth be told. If doing my own, I'd make them even darker and duller. I think orcs should look grimy and murky, so it really depends on the painter's intent and preference.

Thanks for the comments guys! At the moment my recipe for the red works the colors up from Schorched Brown to Blood Red. I'm not too sure about any additional highlighting as I agree it would become too light for an Orc. To be honest, I might just repaint him again with a new color scheme later to keep it darker.

Hey guys!

Well, I decided to start over. The Captain has been reprimed. I just wasn't pleased with how he was coming along, I felt that I could do better and since he's a command model I thought he deserved my very best. Although to be honest I was a little sick of him. So I decided to begin work on my Shman first instead. As of now I've finished the metallics! :)

I've also started trying to work with a blue gradient for my pictures, hope this helps with them! :)

The first picture is much closer to what it looks like in real life, however I felt the need to add the second since the first is so far away. C&C welcome! :)

I can't find anything to criticize on right now, it looks excellent! Though it's a bit clean for my tastes, I always like to add rust to baddies in general.
