Seems pretty conclusive that Heroes CAN call an Epic Strike prior to a duel and increase their FV to 10. The battle report in December WD mentions this clearly.

Maybe, but then again they made several rule errors in their other wotr batreps.

Agreed. You should always double check rules and not rely on battle reports from GW. They are gamers, just like us, and are prone to making mistakes during the course of a game.

I agree that they make mistakes in their batreps. However, these are the exception, rather than the rule.

So the example may not be conclusive but it has swayed me that Epic Strike affects duels.

If I recall correctly, this is at least the second mention of Epic Strike and dueling in WOTR battle reports...which, while I do agree that one shouldn't base things on WD, does lend some more credence to the idea.

Aren't they "official guys"? It should probably mean that it's the rules as intended.

Absolutely not! There are plenty of past examples of rules-errors in the battle reports. It´s not a knock on them...They're just human like the rest of us. Working for GW doesn't imbue one with any extraordinary powers of wargaming.
