Gandalf with Interchangeable hands(updated 01 Oct)

Hi guys. This would be my first WIP post here in this forum. I've painting LOTR mini's for several years now, hopefully I can learn and share with the fellowship here.

Here's my WIP on Gandalf the Grey. After seeing so many painted Gandalfs around, I thought i wanted my mini to be a bit more unique and so I decided to sculpt alternative hands for my miniature.

The first is a hand holding a pipe:

The second a hand holding a book:

The third hand is the original hand but now magnetized like the other two.

Wow, it looks great! It's a cool and original idea, which I will definetly pursue if I ever get to working on my Gandalf

I don't think posting videos in the forum is possible, and might slow down the page-loading of those of us with slower connections...
So for the video's I suggest on keeping the links (we follow them anyway!)

The pics, shamefully, are broken.

The video is absolutely stunning! Not only the miniature, which is a true work of art, but the cinematography of the whole is also very well done. I like the music, which song is it, and by whom?

Amazing work and great video. I can't wait to see it painted. One question though, how do you get rid of the marks left by you fingerprint while sculpting. As you can guess I'm rather new to sculpting and am having some difficulties with not touching the putty at all.

@Joansean-Hi! Which pics are you refering to? Is it the one posted here or the ones in the video? If it's the video, you can set it to High Quality as for the grainy quality, it's just a video effect I added to make it more personalized for my channel.
The music's by Evanescense called Good Enough. They have great ballads Thanks :-D

@Dwarf Lord of Ered Luin-Yes that's the the biggest problem I faced when I started. The trick is to break up the sculpting into many sections and not in one sitting- cause you tend to touch finished areas when focusing on another area. Let one section set before continuing your sculpt. :no:

@Hallpers-It's a love hate relationship. Start by sculpting simple accessories cause it help build the familiarity with playing with "greenstuff"

I think the pics are alright now after some changing the display size. Thanks man,

I thought I'll also update my progress with some pictures of Gandalf the Grey. ("elderly chap with pointy hat')

The paints I use for this is all from Vallejo Model Colour. I prefer these type of paint because it is less vivid than game colours.
You can use GW Colours as well though the flesh tones would come out different from these. Normally I begin with the face but this time I painted the hat first using WW2 Luffewaffe uniform.

Gandalf 90% finished. I 'll update the video with more details to the steps and paints very shortly.

I'm not Arnie but I'm sure I'll b back. :-D

That miniature is BRILLIANT! :yay:

I love the idea of the interchangeable hands and the painting is beautiful. The colours are so realistic that the miniature feels "real". Keep up the great work!

Finally the video process for painting Gandalf is done.

But first here's a short response to the good souls of middle-earth.

@King Elessar the Uniter-Thanks. After painting GW style since 2002, I got kinda tired of it and decided to try a more realistic style. I'm glad you like it. :wink:

@Halpers- I'm pretty happy it turned out well despite using slightly different colours Gandalf the Grey is used to. Thnks :-D

@hero of gondor-...and the pipe or sword too since the are detachable. Thnks :rofl:

@BilboOfTheWhiteTower-Thnks. I hope you will like the video for this too.

@samoht-you guys are more amazing for supporting. Many thanks.

Wow, I just love the idea behind the interchangeable hands. Its justa wonderful and unique idea, you're truly very creative with your conversions and painting. The video was great as well, and I really liked your painting scheme for, Gandalf.

Will we be seeing another article for this conversion? :pray:

Wow! that is so the perfect atmosphere for a mini like that! Wonderfull diorama! That is so brilliantly worked out mate!
All the little details, such as the golden inscriptions on the books and so on.. the perfect colour of the wood... wow man!
