It’s about time we’re going to make our own movie!

What a wonderful piece of scenery! The thatching of the roof is just perfect; much better than an old towel! And the painting gives it an age-old, moss-grown look; perfectly right! You must have visited some old farms & barns in Belgium to get the ‘disorderly’ layout right: these muddy tracks between the buildings, these ‘peeps around the corner’ into those stacks of barrels… lovely dirty; it is all very identifiable!

This is a very nice article indeed, with lots of great ideas. I was very impressed with how the thatch turned out. I think it's the best thatch I've seen so far. The PVA wood grain texture is a brilliant idea, which I'll have to have a go at. :yay:

The finished model is a lovely piece of scenery.

I second that. It seem so easy and simple to do: much easier than sculpting it piece by piece with green stuff.

Fantastic article, Bart!

It's a lovely piece of terrain, with very inovative contruction technique. The wood, and thatch are wonderful. And, to top it all off, we have the superb drunk hobbit.

This is one of the most endearing pieces of terrain ever seen on O-R or anywhere else for that matter. The article is superb.
My only slight disappointment is that the obviously well-watered brewer does not look more like Bart....

It was actually a trick I learned from Alan (Dagorlad), only my way was way faster and more lazy... Alan's trick is much more professional and realistic looking and so awesome and much better (different kind of rope which has already the perfect colour, but much thinner rope so more work needed... heh, if it comes to lazyness, I'm always on the first row

Splendid article Bart! It covers a variety of techniques that everyone will find very useful no matter what they are making although more so if it is hobbit-related! The thatch roof definitely makes this piece a 10/10

I love the concept of this terrain piece, and its layout and plan are excellent. Some of the detail is wonderful, the thatch is awesome, I love the little details of barrels and oxen cart and drunk hobbit - nice touch. I also liked the streaked PVA for wood grain effect - i hadnt seen that before.
if I may offer one hopefully constructive criticism?:
I am not too keen on the glass in the windows. I dont think it is ever easy to get glass right. I think the only thing I would have done here is go for a much deeper, almost black shade of blue, with the tiniest highlights.
Otherwise excellent terrain and article.

I am definitely going to use your basic idea and the thatching tutorial to make a Rohan building or two, or twelve.... Loved the look and the drunken hobbit! It should be an objective point in one of your games...
