Brilliant article Nathan, good to see the making of Smaug together with only the creator's comments.
Good thing you didn't describe making the first head: telling people to cut it off right after making it would dash their enthuasiasm.

I like the end quote, you're right: it is Smaug! Maybe Job read Tolkien?

Great article, 10/10!

Excellent article!

Too bad though I'm not good enough at sculpting to start sculpting my own... yet.

I've read a discussion-something a while ago about the things in things tolkien and the bible had in common(very interesting). and some people suggested tolkien did rewrite the bible (beginning of arda etc)

however, im still amazed how you did Smaug! cause its look d*mn awesome!

are you planning on painting him?:O

You do realise that we are expecting a second epic - The Magnificent Painting of Smaug the Magnificent ?
10/10 does little justice to the thought and effort that has gone into creating this fabulous wyrm.

Wow, such a great article! I would definitely get this cast... after a year and a half of work and such a great model it'd be more than worth it.
Can't wait to see your next sculpting project, hopefully even more epic than the last (If that's possible...).

So, yeah, 18 months hard labour, you just got it finished, and we demand you chop it up again...

Great article, 10/10!

Er... I guess you were being ironic... The book of Job was written over 3000 years before Tolkien was born!
I'm sure that Tolkien was aware of it.

Thanks for the comments though. :)

@ everyone. Thanks very much. :D :-D

 I won't get it cast. It would cost an absolute fortune to reproduce this model and, as gaarew says, the thought of cutting it to bits to make a mold isn't the first thing on my to-do list!

Sure, I will paint it. I'm looking forward to that. :-D
