nice, I like the face on both wolf and the knight, which in my opinion is the most important part of a miniature 8)

Recieved one of the Ltd. Ed. Space Marines off Matt (lotrcrown) yesterday. I've been painting ever since, and I've come up with this:

He's from the Sons of Orar Chapter... first of around 30 minis.

Really nice Patrick, but I think he looks a bit too big for the base.

If it's a gaming mini, I guess its cool, but if it's a display piece, I'd be tempted to put him on a 40mm base, as his arms reach out too far from the edges in my opinion.

Ah sh.... well, I ordered round 40 more 30mm bases the other day for these minis. Maybe it's just the pose? But anyway at least the base is bigger than the standard 40K. They might look better as a unit with smaller bases rather than 40mm, though you are right - on its own it certainly would look better with 40mm.

It is the pose that does it. The extended arm with the boltgun just creates too much of a horizontal line.

I have seen a full Space Marine army on 30mm display bases and yes, it does look very nice.

I had at one point considered them for my LotR minis, or maybe just the heroes, but with WotR I'm kinda glad I didn't now.

Yeah, I can only imagine the pain of having to remove the bases and replace every one... :o

Anyway, more marines to come soon methinks.

Thanks Julian. Here's the colours:

Red:
Base of Mechrite Red - Black Wash - Re-coat with MR - Highlights done by adding bubonic brown to MR - Shaded using Baal Red Wash.

White: Simple really; work codex grey up to skull white.

Black: Chaos Black - 50/50 mix of CB and Adeptus BG - ABG

Green: Orkhide Shade - work this up to Knarloc Green - add some Dheneb/Bleached Bone - skull white dot.

NMM: Read Peregrin Took's article on this site.

I'm torn between painting my few assault marines like this, or like the Howling Griffon apothecary :x

I really like the way you paint the red, and I'm also a big fan of how you do your white, which I have found hard to paint right. 8)

Lovely red indeed ;) What shade is that ?

But I have to say, that this white is too white ;) There doesn't seem to be any shadows on it.

I'll blame the hardly-any-shadows on the angle  . But I feel that too much shadows on flat areas that are supposed to be white make them look like grey. As for the red, there's a recipe up at the top of the page I think. :)

The NMM is turning out to be a pain and I'm not at all happy with it. Some minis, like the first marine at the top of the page, are made for NMM, while others, like the hammer-and-jump pack one, are not. I may start using metallics on these marines. What does everyone else think? Metallics would also help me speed up.

Yep, NMM is pain in the...:D I try to use is exclusively, for now (due to large backlog :D )

Nmm on 30 minis.. lot's of work espeically that it needs a bit time to look good, and some of 40k mins are har due to rich ornaments, different angles and stuff.

An to be honest good metalics are sometimes better fit than even most amazing NMM :)

In the end it's your call anyway ;)
