Well, i have been trying different washes and highlights, i wanted to keep them dark, with a light side to them (stop talking rubbish James!). So this is how they are looking. C&C welcome as well as any ideas on how to make them actually look better. They just lack something IMO but i don't know what.

I like the highlights, but would maybe make the swords metal as well as the armor to keep it consistent.

Second Dave's comment about the swords, also try drybrushing them lightly grey again after the wash.

Check my gallery to see an example.

Hey James, I love the deep dark colours of these dead ones!

I wouldn't do an extra grey highlight since it would hide too much of the nice spooky green, maybe if an extra highlight is needed, I'd go for some kinda pale green... Or maybe a mix between Skull White and Emerald Green... but not applying drybrush-wise, more like layering highlights with much watered down paint...

but I love them as they are mate!!
Well done!!

What are you planning for the bases?

A soft drybrush of Dark Angels Green or even Hawk Turquoise (and further highlights with Emerald Green or Hawk Turquoise + Skull White) can give a nice spooky reflection or "light" (well, not that it's actually "light", more like a reflection of fear-causing spookyness)

Thanks Guys. I have painted the swords grey, lightly drybrushed the entire mini with a greenish highlight.

I plan to now build up the grey and white.

@ John. Very nice AoTD, but its not quite the style i was going for :)

@ Bart. Nothing special for the bases. Painted brown, drybrushed and flocked.

James

Great AotD! :D

Now MY challenge is that you try and make the swords and metal parts rusty (I think John Y. did it on his AotD a while back) :-D

Any progress on that treb btw? XD

well, after just trying out even more things. I finally settled for this:

I did the metal in grey, silver and a bit of brazen brass for the rust effect that was mentioned.

The only thing is, these 2 stand out from the other 20 odd dead comrades

*moving onto the goblins now*

Very nicely done! Those 2 AotD look superb, and I wouldn't make any changes. :)
Looking forward to those goblins 8)

well, after quickly going into denile there, i have actually made the others darker with a wash, a few drybrushes etc. They look a bit better together now, rather than the green, the grey and glowing (just don't ask how i did that XD). No pictures of this yet, may be one soon.

as for the goblins, 3/5 done:

They're looking nice and grimy, as they should be, though the base edges could be cleaned up a bit. 8)

Very impressive Goblins James.

But you need to sort out the top of the bases, you can see the injection mark on them.
