I think this perhaps illustrates what RoG means better.

Good going Nate! :yay:

If he has ears that big, he won't need wings in order to fly!

OK. The back of my brain will work on this while I get on with those reports. I'll see what I can accompish at the weekend - but the 'ears' will be A LOT smaller than that lizard's frill!

The dragon looks great! :D I think the ears can also be two small holes, but maybe the paper example will show us something else :)

This is exactly what I didn't mean! This is a frilled-neck lizard... Well, actually, I guess the shape is okay, but I proposed that he have much smaller "gills", and only on the sides... but otherwise, thanks for the pic Sean 8)

That's right, Dorth. This is what happens if water gets spilt on me.

Dorth checks weather forecast for the Bath area.
According to BBC Weather, heavy showers forecast for Friday and Saturday, so I guess the added water element will take effect.
Swell.....

BTW, we only get a light shower on Saturday, in Derry!

Ive widened the skull in preparation for huge flappy wing ears and possibly a few horns/spikes. We'll see.

Today I've been experimenting with ears. Tolkien's drawing of Smaug included ears and, on reflection, I've decided to go for it. It will certainly make him look more magnificent and less like a dinosaur/crocodile.

So, a T-Rex would not qualify as magnificent chez Natarn?
I wonder could olde Smokey wiggle his ears?
Great sculpting (as usual) - the anticipation of seeing the completed piece is killing us...

I did say 'more magnificent', Dorth.

Thanks for the comments. Please don't die before next week! I'll try to get Smaug finished for ORA. I'll do a bit more work on the wings today and hopefully get the ears finished before the end of the day. :)

I have no plans to shuffle off this mortal coil any time soon. Better to take your time with the beastie and get it done as best as possible (to your satisfaction - never mind us, the Rude Mechanicals making Noises Off).

Something like this...
Image
only higher up and more pointy.

I have actually made them. I'm just waiting for the putty to harden before I sculpt the backs. Not sure about them really but they'll do for now.

OK. It's just great to have someone to blame the ears on. People may say they aren't sure about the ears but I can just tell them it was your idea! :-D
